So now that we have a fired and almost Jets-demoted "Football Czar" who no one, aside from Savvy Steve (Ross) wanted, I started thinking about the trials and tribulations of our own head coaches who were dragged out of Davie feet first.

Not a pretty sight.

Shula: not applicable, retired as an iconic coach

JJ: not applicable, retired from football to lead la dolce vita on his Keys boat and as a Fox Sports analyst

Wannstedt: foisted on The GarbageMan by his butt buddy JJ after being ridden out of town as the Bears HC. His downward spiral subsequently consisted of being fired from U of Pitt HC, 2years as LB coach and then DC before regime change; 2013 TB Special Teams Coach; presently at liberty

Saban: not applicable.. quitter and liar because he could not bully grown men and was a mediocre NFL HC...but he did leave on his own terms. He has subsequently become one of the most successful College Coaches ever.

Cameron: Fired as Ravens OC after 3+years, presently OC and QB coach of LSU. How many notches down did he fall?

Sparano: Fired after 1 year as Jets OC, Asst HC/OL Coach then Interim HC Oakland before regime change; presently SF TE coach (as an ironic aside, Tony Jr, in Buffalo, has the same lower-level position coach job as his dad)

Philbin: Fired and presently 1st year OL coach Colts - unlike Wanny, or Tony, no interim stops at OC for any team.

What can be learned from this? IMO neither Wayne nor Steve have exercised great judgment in hiring HCs although JJ and Wanny had their moments. We could go through the same exercise for GMs, but it looks like Spielman resurrected himself nicely in MN, however only he ended up in a lateral position. I guess we can add Hickey to that neer-do-well afterlife list.

Now I agree that Gase looks like an inspired hire and have high hopes for him, but reading between the lines, it looks like it was Ross more than Tannenbaum who had zoned in on him early. As far as GMs (and de facto GMs) , well history tends to repeat itself more often than not :idk:

That's one of the main reasons the team has really sucks the last decade or so.

To be fair, the team did have some mild success that one year they actually got half decent QB play in 2008.

They got second in the mvp voting qb play in a bradyless division. Still mad you were so wrong about philbin huh?

Even that year having Noodle, with Philbin calling the shots I'm pretty sure we'd have lost the division to Casell. That douche could **** up a wet dream.

Saban is doing rather well...

.....now let's talk about GMs! hehe

Rick Speilman is the GM in Minnesota, and consistently drafts good players and brings in good free agents. Solid team in Minnesota.

Randy Mueller is the senior executive of football operations in San Diego - he has held the position since 2008 under former GM AJ Smith and current GM Tom Telesco.

After a one-month draft consulting gig in Seattle for the 2014 draft, Jeff Ireland currently serves as a college scout for the New Orleans Saints. :bobdole:

Dennis Hickey has not found work after being let go at the beginning of the year.

Gotta love that there is no blame on the people actually paid to PLAY the game.

Remember. ..Saban left because of meddling higher ups and he didn't really like the city of Miami. ...it isn't for everybody.
He took a better job for less money. He is the BEST college coach ever...and this coming from the biggest Bear Bryant fan there is..
The decision to hire Nick was the smart choice..it just didn't work out..we made his leaving worse by making multiple bad hires....it is what it is.

I think Saban moved on because he chose the wrong QB and was smart enough to realize he wouldn't be given enough time to right that wrong. Better to start fresh elsewhere.
