The Bills didn't make a splash.
And didn't the Jets make a HUGE SPLASH last year?
We have a plan and a budget and are sticking to it. Something 90% of teams don't do.
I agree, people are looking at what the Division is doing and instantly think they have improved and are ahead of us. Buffalo was pretty bad last year, and the only real addition they made was Terrell Owens. He is a name that is all and people are just get caught up in that. Think Jerry Rice playing for the Seahawks. Also, they still has Trent Edwards throwing the ball. You can have all the receivers you want, but it means nothing when you don't have a quarterback.
The Jets went bonkers last year in free agency and people were talking Super Bowl. They finished third in the division. Also, they have no quarterback right now.
The Pats are a strong team and will again be our biggest challenger for the AFC East title. They added some nice pieces and expect Brady to be back. Still though, will Brady be the same after that nasty knee injury? If not, who can they turn to with Cassel now in KC?
Miami is going about things like they did last season. Of course they were more active during free agency last year, but that was because they had a big turnover from what the previous regime had. The got rid of a ton of players and needed to sign some to set a base foundation. They mainly wanted to build the team through the draft. With that draft, we landed four current starters (Long, Merling, Langford, Thomas) and one future starter (Henne). Also can't forget we got two nice players as UDFA in Bess and Carpenter.
Thing is, people looked at big name moves the the East made last year and didn't give the Dolphins a chance. In fact, I remember people saying they could actually be worse then the 1-15 team from 2007. Those cries were really loud after our 0-2 start. Still though, we have a strong front office and a strong coaching staff. Belichick is the best coach in the division(could be debatable now that the cameras are not rolling anymore), but Sparano is definitely the second best coach.
The other thing I find laughable is that people say "Oh, the Dolphins were a fluke. They had an easy schedule, and will be ripped apart by this year's schedule". Some even predict a last place finish. The laughable part is that besides the Texans and Ravens game(two games which we lost), we played the SAME exact schedule as the rest of the Division. Oh, but Miami squeaked by the likes of the Raiders, Seahawks and 49ers. Well guess what, the Raiders and Seahawks beat the Jets. Those horrible 49ers? They beat the Bills and Jets. Ok, well what about those 8-8 Chargers who we only beat by 7 points? They beat the Jets and Patriots.
We had the same exact schedule and if you want to exclude the two games we played that were not the same, we went 11-3. The schedule we play next year again only has two different teams then the rest of the East. Those easy team's we squeaked by last year beat some of our division foes. Why is the tougher schedule only going to affect the Dolphins? All it means is that instead of an 11-5 division winner, it may only take 10 games to win it.
