Everyone knows the Pittsburg Steelers are going to power run the ball and playaction pass.

NE Patriots run a spread with an assortment of screens and draws
Bills run the no-huddle

49ers run the I formation and are a downhill running team.
Giants are an I formation downhill running team.

Colts run the spread and shotgun and are a playaction pass team

What are the Fins? Wildcat? nope, WC is a formation in the NFL not an offensive philosophy.

Do fins run the spread? Nope, are we a power running team? nope.

This is the dilemna...and until we make up our minds what we are on Offense we will continue to struggle and be very inconsistent.

I would prefer given our OL and RB personnel, that we line up and run right at teams and if we face 3rd downs at least they will be more often 3rd and 5 or 6 rather than 3rd and 10 or 12.

This team needs to line up and do away with the trickery and just jamn the ball down the D's throat. If we punt we punt and play D.

Trouble is the vast majority of the time anything thats 3rd and 6 or more will not be converted.

I like 3rd and 3 - that give you a slant option for 3 that could go for a long gain if Noodle can zip it which he can't...

I know where you are coming form but it is not that simple. If you go 3-4 yards in a cloud of dust and can't covert 3rd and 4 or longer our D will be left on the field way too long. We need the WILDFIN as a change of pace to get 6 yards instead of 3 or 4 per pop. We have some identity IMHO. We run Ricky and Ronnie and pop the WILDFIN when necessary. Then we have a short passing game and unfortunately no deep passing game. We have at least one who can get open deep as in Ginn. But no one to get it to him accurately and consistently. There is our identity for better or for worse. None of it matters is if we can't block.

If we commited to the running game, defenses would be forced to bring down the SS giving us 1 on 1 which opens up the slants, which dont require a zip necessarily, just an accurate throw.
The running game sets everything up.

No run offense, no offense.

Ummm....ATL never played a 2 high safety that whole game the safety was cheating up toward the LOS.

I think sometimes we get away from the running game too early. Not sure who makes those decisions and when, but it seems we do.

The phins have an Identity its called multiple..

Yea agree we dont do it the way the steelers and pats do...

But they are both 1 and 1...

Phins are young and have nothing but upside for the future...

Its not so much identity, Its the lack of a deep ball or the 20-30 yard outs. If you dont have to think about that on defense, then thats a big chunk of field you really dont have to watch. We need a strong, accurate qb and I feel the offense will open up really well.
