Fins negotiating with agent for Jake Long

This is what mayock said on Mike and Mike earlier this week and me thinks it's good news...

Good to hear they've started negotiations. They'll likely start with 2 or 3 other players as well to maintain some leverage and sign the best contract. Since it appears no one is willing to trade up to #1, we'll likely know who is coming to Miami before the clock starts. I'll be surprised, like most, if its anyone other than one of the Longs.

As much as I like J. Long...this means very little...it's still way to early to just think about one player...and since Condon represents both J. Long and Ryan...who really knows whats going on, behind closed doors.

Maybe so Fish but does BP strike you as a "drama" guy... He could take the wind out of the sails of the media so that the team can focus... You know he has shopped the pick and he likely knows where the FO sits with the draft board...

haha, how'd i know you'd turn this to a Ryan thread.

You might want to reread that:

"The Dolphins have formally begun contract negotiations with agent Tom Condon about the prospect of selecting former Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long as the first overall selection in this year's draft.
Condon, who also represents Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan, was in South Florida early this week to negotiate specifically on behalf of Long at the request of the team, The Miami Herald has learned."

The talks are for Ryan. Condon represents both players. Jake Long is just a smoke screen tool just like Braylon Edwards was in 05.

I would be happy with any of the top 7 guys as our pick so this is not a anti-Ryan statement. However, I just can't see us taking a quarterback (other than a Manning caliber of QB) with our #1. The biggest reason is we desparately need OL and we need more than one OL. I know the OL draft is deep this year and that is why we need to draft OL early and often.

I guess I just think we should built from our lines outward and the OL is the first place we should start. All this is mute if Ryan was a Manning caliber QB but we all know he isn't. That's not a knock on the guy just reality. He can be a good QB but with all our holes on the team the QB would have to be great to pick him. Jake Long is the safe and smart pick. Let's get our OL in shape to protect Beck and provide running lanes for our RB's.

Matt Ryan is horrible  oops i said it

now get a grip, lay down the pipe AND the gun, your life will not be over when you learn Matty "Crappy Icy Hot Patch" Ryan will not be our pick, you'll make it through fella don't worry ;)

Yes...Parcells is a drama guy. He plays the local rags to his liking...and how would any local beat writer know whats going on...unless it was released by the Dolphins.

It's still way too early...almost three weeks away...this is the first...not the last story we'll hear...concerning the first pick.
