As Miami offensive coordinator Scott Linehan draws consideration for a head coaching job, it wasn't too long ago that we heard rumors that Fins coach Nick Saban was fed up with his performance, and might fire him after only one year on the job.

But then the Fins won six in a row. So Linehan had figured it out, right?

Wrong, we hear. The perception in league circles is that the defense got better because Saban -- a defensive-minded coach -- got more involved in the offensive attack.

Given that Linehan didn't even get an interview for the head coaching position in Minnesota, where he served as the coordinator for three seasons, it makes us wonder whether Linehan really is the next Boy Wonder in NFL coaching circles.

I know this is on ProFootballTalk, and some of you don't think it's very credible, but I figured I would relay this to you all.

I hope I didn't violate board policy. I would've posted the link, but it's down on the page, admist a bunch of other articles.

Ok, now it is time to discuss!

I think it's just all about having a team effort..

It just shows you that everyone on the staff is open to criticism and suggestion..

Everyone is working together to capture one goal and one result.

I love this team.

I really think many of us dont really look that deep into our offense. Linman has some nice things in his arsenal but needs to use the run better and sometimes struggles with clock management and red zone offense. It would not suprise me that Saban had some problems with the offense and remember he took Linman out of his cushy box.

Saban brought him down to the sidelines to be able to communicate better with him. Sounds like it has some merit.... AND does anyone here honestly believe that saban just hands the keys to linehan with no limitations?? Thats just crazy! Remeber saban has all the offensive calls go through his head set so that he can Veto them at any time...

...defense got better because Saban -- a defensive-minded coach...
That says the defense got better because of Saban. I guess this PFT's way of not taking heat when they're wrong... which is most of the time.

Probably a typo, I'm sure they meant offense.

The thing I have against PFT is that they sprinkle some truth with much conjecture...of the above article how much is truth and how much is conjecture is the real crux of the issue...Saban isn't unhappy with Linehan, nor was he going to fire Linehan after this season. He may be preparing for Linehan's departure because he gets another job, but to fire him, with the success they've had despite a lousy QB situation, is admirable on Linehan's part. Afterall, he did get CC to show his abilities better, helped RW regain his stature as a premier back and nurtured along RB very well. I'd like to see what he can do with a real QB...

Oh and BTW, Linehan had no real ties to Minny after Meathead was fired and the new owner took over...Besides, he really has only 4 years in the pros. He, IMHO, needs a little more time to establish himself as a viable candidate.

The offense got better because the coaches showed confidence in the offensive players with the "Feed the Studs" mantra they started right after the Cleveland game. Prior to that the players were feeling like anything but studs.

I think this is the most important of all facts concerning Scott. All else good and bad default back to this. It is IMO in his best interest to stick it out. The morning after our Superbowl win he will be able to write his own ticket. Saban was fussy and did not set himself up to fail by picking a bad owner Scott won't have to either if we are successful.

I love Saban, but he can't do everything!!! I'd say this is a stretch. You can't argue with the stats Minn. had under Linehan and you can't dismiss Culpepper's #'s under Linehan.

It sounds good and nice but it is still PFT and we can't pick and choose what we want to believe from them only when it benefits our same point of view...

Interesting. This is what I have been saying for weeks.

Saban busting Linehan down to the sidelines was not happy-feeley-huggy time. It was a boss unhappy with his employees performance. it was a boss who wanted to keep an eye on an employee he didn't completely trust not to screw up.

I don't think Saban will be unhappy if Scott leaves at all.
