fins, pat white haggle over incentives.

If the guy has a damn thing between his ears, he'll take whatever the Dolphins will give him. If he wants to hold out, then that's his loss and he'll get exactly what he deserves. It's not like his absence from TC would affect this team at all.

Obviously the guy has something between the ears and that's why he's asking for incentives that would go along with the potential a of impact player.. if he doesn't reach the incentives then the phins have nothing to worry about..but if he gets the standard qb 2nd round contact and outpreforms it, then he's screwing himself.. I say it's a smart move on his part..

I dunno if there is any truth to this and earlier today I spoke with my brother about this very thing. 2 things come to mind.

1. Depending on what he has been told, the incentives must be a nightmare to figure out. I dunno where he will line up in the wildcat or if he even will, for a while. But how do you set his incentives ? Yards on the ground, air, number of plays ? Some combination ? How do you set it up so that he potentially does not earn too much more than Henne ?

2. If the details of his incentives get out, will that give away Miami's plan ?

I can see why, again depending on what he and his agent have been told, a standard contract would not apply easily.

Despite this I, like most/everyone, believe both sides need to get it worked out and settled. It's not like they just had today to figure it out.

Anybody remember the last hold out? What happened to him? I think he's about to be declared a bust.

I feel sorry for the kid that trys to hold out this regime. If he holds out I hope he never touches the field this year.

If I were representing him, I'd want it to be based on total yards and touchdowns. Basically, I want my client to get paid for moving the chains and getting yards, no matter where he lines up.

Pat white knows he better get the most money he can get out of his first nfl contract because he will never be a starter in this league (my prediction)

I don't disagree to a point, he needs to keep trying right up until tonight. But if things don't get ironed out he had better give in. This regime has already shown they like to bring in two players at a time to do the same thing to force not only competition at the spot but also to ease the money end of things.

So lets say White plays hard ball, what happens about next Thursday to White's case when suddenly he turns on the local nightly news and finds out Vick has been signed for pennies on the dollar. Then where's his leverage??

If White doesn't sign today, there should be some concern. He needs to be in camp. Most contracts are held up on particulars. Like incentives. It's where White will make his money because he knows he won't see he field like an every down player. I just hope he doesn't over value himself.

Very disappointing that White hasn't signed yet. The player i'm most looking forward to out of this entire draft and he's not there on day 1. I hope he knows what he's doing because I don't see him getting any pull when it comes to our current regime.

I agree completely MFF. People go nuts when a player holds out. But they think nothing of it when the team cuts a player. Case in point....Vonnie Holliday. He AND the Fins agreed to a contract in good faith. If the Fins still wanted Vonnie, and come tomorrow he decided to hold out, some people on this board would be "outraged" and calling everything but an "examplary NFL player", one thing VH always was. But where is the outrage by the Fins behavior vis a vis Vonnie? There is none. And there shouldnt be, because this is a business. Just like its a business for Clemons, White, and anyone else who wants to ensure the best deal possible for themselves. If I was a player on the Fins (seeing what they did to the consumate professional Vonnie Holliday) I would instruct my agent to go over every detail of my contract to squeeze every bit of it that he could...because there are no guarantees.

Dont get me wrong..I think the Fins were well within their right to do whatever they felt necessary regarding Vonnie Holliday. Its a business decision. But dont get all bent out of shape when the player understands that the nature of the relationship is business as well. I applaud PW and Clemons for that matter. They are not puppets who will rubber stamp anything a franchise puts in front of them.

Or what if he takes their offer without negotiating something better in the last year, and he is starter getting paid like a second stringer, and the Fins say, "hey, you agreed to this contract...honor your word"...I think most people on here would be siding with the team. This is the one time in Pat Whites professional life that he is guaranteed to have ANY leverage. He needs to use it. If he sucks it up, the team wont think twice about cutting him. But if hes great, they will think twice about restructuring his contract. I have not problem with PW holding out as long as he needs to to guarantee himself the best deal he can get. He has to weigh the options.

Case in point...Cadillac Williams vs Ronnie Brown. I remember when they were picked in 05 Caddy told his agent to get him in camp. Ronnie did no such thing and held out. When Caddy got hurt, he had very little leverage. Ronnie didnt sign for a bonus but got his entire contract guaranteed...there was no way he was going to get cut when he was injured. RBs contract was better than CWs. Thats the bottom line.

Dude, everybody knows you hate the rookies. We get it. Now shove the sour grapes into your mouth and be quiet. Damn, all some people know how to do is hate on others.

It is still completely mind boggling that Clemons (a 5th round pick) has not signed while our 1st rounder has.

He should had learned from Jason Allen....JA held out his rookie season and his development went down the drains......Its not like he is a first second third round pick.............
