Update:

@flasportsbuzz: Dolphins sign Nate Allen

@AdamHBeasley: Nate Allen signed a one-year, $3.4 million contract with Miami, according to a league source. Another team-friendly deal.

Roto sees him as a backup SS. Not as a FS option

Nate Allen - DB - Dolphins
Dolphins signed S Nate Allen, formerly of the Raiders.
Allen signed a "four-year, $23 million" deal with the Raiders two years ago, but was released after one season. He ended up re-signing for less money, but remained ineffective in 2016, and was allowed to walk. He'll be a body behind SS Reshad Jones as the Dolphins figure out how to replace Isa Abdul-Quddus

@ArmandoSalguero: The Dolphins are closing in on a deal with safety Nate Allen, league source says. Could be done by this eve barring snags.

Will update title when deal done. Allen should be a fin in an hour or two

He is younger than Webb I believe? You don't need all-stars at every position, just quality. Signing Allen, Timmons, Hayes....I highly doubt we pick Safety or LB with our 1st pick now.

Meh i hope we can draft one..
He has specials value but i will say Oak could not wait until Karl got back last year

meh

but we need bodies and we need range after what our nickel lb starting unit is gonna look like

career underachiever to date

Probably still looking in the draft for one. Could be a high pick in fact. Still expecting a lot of defense in the draft.

I don't think Allen prevents Miami from drafting a safety round 1. IMO they will draft BPA but Allen is not the permanent answer just depth

Not a fan. Hopefully just for one year, and little guaranteed money. They just want a body who's better than Rambo in the building.

I beg to differ. They still could and should draft a safety or linebacker if one they like is available in the first round. They still need youth at those positions and these free agent signings are stop gap measures. It doesn't solve the problem long term. Plus they need another starting linebacker anyways.
