Johnny Grier's name is in the article. I would love to add a ref for this type of job. Don't know if I want Grier though, he's a blowhard.

It doesnt read as though Grier is being considered for the job.

According to longtime official Johnny Grier, the Dolphins are looking to hire a retired referee to be their instant replay official with his primary duty to assist coach Nick Saban on challenges, and they could have had one of the most respected zebras in the business.

"I heard that last week,'' Grier said of the Dolphins' job search. "We never discussed it."

He added with a laugh: "They should've made me an offer.''

All I'm saying that Saban is again bring more positive to the team from the coaching staff. Saban has really filled his staff with coaches that will all improve the team and Wanny never really did a lot to improve the coaching staff. This wasn't intended to bash Wanny, I was one of the few supporters..

I always liked Grier as ref too. Seen him and remember him refing countless games. Don't know where Mike has come up with the idea he is a blowhard. I never saw anything about Grier that would give me that opinion.
While we are on the subject of refs, BY FAR, the worst one is Tom White. I cringe when I see him out there at the start of a Dolphins game.

Hi, im new to the boards but have been reading for a long time. I saw this post and i noticed that everyone is praising it. Living here in fairfax i get alot of redskins news, and they recently dumped their referee that they had because they lost more challenges than they won... well just my input...

Very true. Guess its all in who ya hire. Just like in any other walk of life.

IF its someone respected among officials, then maybe you have an edge. If the Skins hired someone that his peers hated when he was a ref, they might have been out to screw him knowing the new job he had.

That was Hill.He did a good job but the problem was that in the heat of ths game the coaches did not pay attention to him thus making him irrelevant.

Hill was only involved in reviewing replay calls thus he was a remote figure to the coaches and staff.

What I think Saban wants to do is to make the ex-official a part of the staff so they see him on the sidelines actively participating. He would garner some respect that way and he is more likely to be considered.
