5.5? Wow, you could easily make some money if you bet for the over. I still think we will win 8 games this year.

Last year the over under was i believe 7 or 8 games after Ricky quit.... i bet $50 and lost... i thought we would have still be 9-7....

did you find it.... look under Quick Links All Sports then Hot of the Week....

I'm on sportsbook.com. If I want to bet on the first game, what do I bet on? I'm new to this type of betting.

This is what I see:

Can someone explain what each one is?

OK... the first square is the Straight up odds. No spread. You can select the team you think will win.

IN this case the Fins are under dogs at +165 . Meaing that for every dollar you bet.. you will win as a profit 1.65 eg. $10 will give you $16.50 profit or a total payout of $26.60 (including your original bet).

The second is the spread. Fins are underdogs by 4.5 points... so if they win the game or lose by less than 4 points.. you still win. if you bet $10.. you win $9.00 profit or .90 per every dollar you bet.

The last line is the over under for the total score of the game.

If you deposit to the account... go ahead and select a bet and it will pop up on the left hand side... you will see the total payout. dont worry it wont take your bet unless you write the word yes in the square and submit it.

Use this to double check the payouts... as i could have calculated wrong...im tired and new a coffee

Thanks Eric-Honduras. I really appreciate it. Just one more question though.

What if I was a Bronco fan. Can you tell me what the -185 means? I'd just like to know for future reference for when the Fins aren't the underdog. :)

thats true and good for us believers, seriously. ive never felt more secure with and bet than that the fins will win more than 5 games next year.

$20 will give $14.80 profit.

If your gonna bet the season totals... gotta bet higher $$.....

otherwise just bet $20 on the fins WEEK 1 against the Broncos. As we are an underdog of +165 straight up.

a $20 bet yields a $33.00 profit get your money faster and its one game.

What if I put $500 on the over/under total games ?? How much would I profit ??

The minus is what you put up on the favorite to win a base unit. In your example, Denver to win the game straight up (no pointspread) would be 185 to win 100. Or any multiple of that, i.e. 370 dollars to win 200 or 18.50 to win 10.

A typical money line at a reputable joint has a 20 cent cut at low numbers:

Denver -1.85
Miami +1.65

Once you get to a higher pointspread, let's say 10 points, the cut or vigorish on money line (straight up) wagers will be much greater. It might look like this:

Denver -4.00
Miami +3.40

If it's true Miami is now 5.5 over -1.35 in Las Vegas, that's an automatic scalp if you play off the odds at the Venetian Hotel, at least the Venetian odds as of when I left on vacation last week. They had Miami at 5 with the under -1.30. You could bet over 5 at even money at the Venetian and under 5.5 at +1.05 elsewhere. That's a complete no-lose situation if you bet the same amount. Let's say you bet $500 on each side. If the Dolphins win exactly 5 games you win the $525 under the 5.5 and are refunded the $500 at the Venetian at even money over 5. A cool $525 profit. If Miami wins 4 games or less you win the $525 under 5.5 and lose the $500 over 5 for a profit of $25. If the Dolphins win 6 or more you break exactly even, winning the $500 over 5 at the Venetian while losing $500 under the 5.5.

People who dismiss sports betting as surrendering the family fortune conveniently ignore possibilities like that. I literally do it hundreds of times per year, playing scalps and middles. It takes energy and legwork and instincts but you can easily turn the advantage in your favor. Many friends of mine in Las Vegas do that alone, never speculating on game outcomes but simply looking at it as a mathematical opportunity to profit in the long run.

DITTO!!!!!
Now I need to find some moola to bet!

2 seasons ago I got into betting pretty big. I was putting anywhere from a couple hundred to a thousand a weekend up online. Some weekends I made out ahead, other weekends I lost. I was doing a lot of parlaying, however, to boost my odds, and using single game favorites, and O/U to try to cover my initial outlay. In the end.....I was basically breaking even and it got to the point where I hated Sundays. I was watching every game I could, checking wins, pt totals, O/U, how it affected my parlays and straight bet, who was injured, who wasn't, historical trends, home/away, the f-n weather...u name it. I ended up making it a job to pretty much break even and not enjoy the sport.

My advice....just be a casual bettor, in small amounts, unless you can devote the time required to make it a full-time job. I couldn't and broke even and stopped enjoying the sport. Now....I try only to keep track of the phins....

Thanks Awsi. I don't plan on betting a fortune, but I will be betting some money that's for sure.
