Fins Total Wins Odds

2 seasons ago I got into betting pretty big. I was putting anywhere from a couple hundred to a thousand a weekend up online. Some weekends I made out ahead, other weekends I lost. I was doing a lot of parlaying, however, to boost my odds, and using single game favorites, and O/U to try to cover my initial outlay. In the end.....I was basically breaking even and it got to the point where I hated Sundays. I was watching every game I could, checking wins, pt totals, O/U, how it affected my parlays and straight bet, who was injured, who wasn't, historical trends, home/away, the f-n weather...u name it. I ended up making it a job to pretty much break even and not enjoy the sport.

My advice....just be a casual bettor, in small amounts, unless you can devote the time required to make it a full-time job. I couldn't and broke even and stopped enjoying the sport. Now....I try only to keep track of the phins....

I think that's excellent advice and a very realistic view of sports betting. To do it right is time consuming as hell and even then there's hardly any guarantee of success. I struggled for years and only started doing well once I found a good job in sports statistical analysis. That enabled me to automate the process, relying on logical historical trends. Instead of subjectively trying to win every game via day-to-day handicapping as you described, the systematic approach merely isolates games in which you'll likely come out a small percentage ahead if you wager on EVERY one that falls within the parameterss over a long period of time. That plus the scalping/middling has produced good results for me since '95. Still, it has down periods. Being in Las Vegas helps me put everything into practice via the amount of different pointspreads available. Plus I know the cream of the crop among local speculators, and their advice is invaluable. Everyone has specialized strengths, or sources of info. Beating one bookie or one offshore/online account is not recommended. When I'm on vacation, like now, I make sure not to wager at all. The mental stress cannot be understated and I'm thrilled to rid myself of it.
