Getty ImagesThe Miami Dolphins traded receiver Brandon Marshall to the Bears as the clock struck 4:00 p.m. ET on March 13, the launch of the 2012 league year and, in turn, the trading period.
They have not replaced him with a free agent or a hot-shot rookie, and they are now embracing the ensuing youth at the position.
“As it stands right now we’re going in with a young group,” G.M. Jeff Ireland recently said, via Brian Briggane of the Palm Beach Post. “I’ve got a couple of players with a lot of experience in Davone Bess and Brian Hartline. They have a tremendous amount of experience at the position. We’ve got a couple of other guys, Legudu Naanee, who looked really good in the on-field sessions, and we’ve got some young guys who are very good football players.”
Use of the phrase “as it stands right now” means that the door is open for possible additions, possibly if for example “Packer for life” Donald Driver ends up being a “Dolphin for a year.”

rebuilding takes more than one draft. sorry guys. next year look to draft a S early and maybe some WRs on the good side of the 3rd round. Our only saving grace this year is watching to see it tannehill is a legit player or not.

Regarding Naanee, he certainly isn't talking about in-game on-field sessions.

With the rules the way they are in the NFL the receivers will not be the reason the team fails. Miami will move the ball in between the 20's just fine, the real success of the team lies on creating red zone mismatches and getting the pass defense into the top 10.

The mismatches aren't the greatest problem, a good OC should be able to get by in the redzone with the WR, TE and RB's that Miami has.

Getting the pass defense into the upper echelon of NFL teams however will be a much greater task. First off the coverage at the corners needs to improve, Smith needs to be more consistent, the slot coverage and TE coverage underneath needs to pick up. The safety play needs vastly improve, so one of the youngsters is going to have to step up and another is going to have to play solid. Pass rush is going to have to improve, Wake cannot do it all himself so someone is going to have to provide some push from the other side to help the secondary out, they can only cover for so long before someone, someplace comes open, a pass rush takes care of that nicely.

Given the work that needs to be done, I would say even though the receivers aren't big named or flashy, less has to be done to make them excel than has to be done with the pass D. Passing first and having a stout passing defense is the way of the future in todays NFL and weighing everything evenly with Miami the passing D as a lot more questions than the receiver core.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Rishard Matthews can do.

i think we have a talented group of young players. alot of you guys are looking into names way to much. who knows what if matthews or bj become legit number 1s. lets wait and see

Matthews looks like he is going to be the rookie wr who's going to give some serious consideration to be in the mix. Don't count out Reggie Bush/Lamar Miller/ Steve Slaton playing a lot of slot either. Having reggie and lamar on the field at the same time should be interesting.

I agree, I think Bush will play more out of the slot, with either Slaton, Thomas or Miller in the back field when he bumps out. I do think one of these young receivers we got will pan out. Don't be surprised if Jeff Fuller does well. And although a lot of these guys ran "slow" times at the combine and their pro days, they all seem fast enough to get separation and some guys aren't timed fast but have game speed. Just look at Ochocinco or Manningham.

If this is the Packers offense why would they have a problem scoring? If everyone did their job this team could be explosive, and don't forget about the defense, I see a 9-7 this season.

I agree. As much as I and many people have wanted a #1, all too many times I've seen teams score without having a go-to receiver. We have a decent TE group now, our RB's are much better now that we have Lamar Miller, and the WCO in general should spread the options around for the QB

Call me crazy, but I think our WR core has a lot of potential, despite being a mixed bag of 4th-7th rders. Bess should continue to be productive. Gates can help spread the field, and Hartline/Cunningham/Matthews all seem very capable of breaking through and becoming even more productive as wide-outs, it's just a matter of selecting the best from the bunch. I'm also interested in seeing if Derek Moye makes the team; he could be a big red-zone target and could cause mismatch problems for the defense.
