So I was pretty bored at work and decided to make a spreadhseet with The

Dolphins current Roster vs. The Colts current roster per nfl.com. I found the

draft position of each player on the roster no matter what team they were

originally drafted by. I then tallied up the number of former 1st rounders, 2nd

Rounders, 3rd Rounders, etc. all the way up to undrafted rookies on each

teams current roster and assigned a point value to each round. 1st Rounders

were worth 7 points, 2nd rounders worth 6 points, 3rd rounders worth 5

points and so on up until 7th rounders which was worth 1 point. I assigned 0

points to undrafted guys. The numbers came out extremely close. The

Dolphins came in with a final value of 180 points while the colts had 182

points. What does this mean other than I was really bored at work? It

validates Two things in my mind. You have to get lucky in the draft and lucky

overall. The Colts had more undrafted guys than us yet are consistent

year in and year out. It really shows what one quarterback and a coach can

do for you. Two, There isn't ,much of a difference between us and the Colts

and anyone can win any given Sunday! Here's to a great upcoming season

and the future with Sparano and Beck/Draftee leading the way!!!

being a first rounder isn't worth much....Jamar Fletcher is out there earning 7 points for some team out there. While Tom Brady is only drawing 2 points by your system.

Wow I assume you couldn't type this with a straight could you ? There isn't much of a difference except maybe their WR's, TE, O-Line, Best saftey in the NFL, Strong special teams, Depth, oh ya that once in a decade pick called P.Manning. Not much of a difference at all, especially if we draft that Matty Ice Ice Baby we'll close the gap even more.

actually it means we picked the wrong guys in them rounds. It means that there were better options out there in the rounds that we passed on and the colts picked them up. Our draft personel have stunk the last few year. I think we actually got some pretty good personel now.

I saw several players on both teams that were not original team draftees...will allen? devin armashodu was drafted by us in 05 in the 7th round...not by the Colts. I thought you were doing strictly what both teams drafted and how they panned out/

You forgot to mention one of those 7 point picks for the colts was a franchise QB that will playing there for a dozen years or more.

Interesting stuff! Instead of giving Peyton 7 points it should of been 70 and 15 for their two recievers! Now compare the the 2 teams! I keep harping on it but the QB position is vital to a teams success even more then that of the headcoach. Then the problem lies, do we pick Ryan at number 1. Na, pick Jake Long and let are 2 running backs do 70% of the work next season.

QB position is very critical yet it is played with alot.....if you have a qb then reche cadwell and jabbar gaffney can take you to the afc champsion game.

BINGO!!! zach8111 hits the nail on the head. All this proves is that they did a much better job at picking players in the draft at the various spots. If we can do a better job at evaluating talent in the next couple years, we could close this talent gap and start beating teams instead of justing keeping games somewhat close.

John Avery and Larry Shannon ring a bell or maybe Jamal Fletcher or Billy Milner! We can go on and on! :boohoo:

thats interesting because i expected our points ( by your system ) to be way lower than indy's..... we've gone years in a row without even having 1st rounders, we've also been throwing all kinds of picks around for QBs, including quite a few high 2nd rounders. I understand that we've signed quite a few former 1st rounders. But still !!
I don't think its all luck or coinsidence that indy's FO hit on most their picks while our lineup of guys back a handful of years ago we're killing the team.
