Yesterday, Congemi and Drayton were asked which sub on the team were ready to step in if called on. They answered Williams at RB, Michael Thomas at S, Shelby and Fede (with emphasis on Fede), LB's (without getting specific), and Sims (who Drayton thinks will be scoring in 2 TE sets in the red zone).

When asked who has the most to lose when the pads come on, the answer was Dallas, Fox, and OG's in general.

Agree or disagree? Who did they miss?

Poor depth ruined the season last year. Phins did very little to improve that. Depth on Oline is the same, and depth at safety was not improved. Those were the two positions where lack of depth killed the season.

I think we'll be fine at Safety...Aikens will be a year more mature and Michael Thomas coming back after injury. As far as the OL....I'm a bit concerned but optimistic that the young Guards will gel.

The very first sentence is the only thing correct in this post.

Last season we lost Reshad and Don Jones, Thomas and Delmas for signifant time. Aikens was depth. Wilson played significant minutes. This year's depth is basically the same, no improvement.

On Oline, there is a good argument we got worse. Last season we had 3 vets at guard in Colledge Smith and Pouncey. This year we have 3 unprovens competing to start. Nothing was done to improve depth behind the tackles and Albert is still out.

Safety is one of the deepest positions on the team...in regards to "depth" you can only carry 53 and have to do it under a certain cash level. Every ****ing team in the NFL has depth concerns...nature of the beast.

I'd add DT, CB, RB and QB to that list. I think overall we have good depth at most positions. The problem is that we have no depth and injury prone players all along the OL. And our starting OG's aren't good. Our RT doesn't run block very well, our LT is so so at it, and only Ajayi really can run through traffic well. So, our running game is suspect, despite the great production last year.

When Lazor came in I said repeatedly that he would manufacture a run game with smoke and mirrors. IMHO, he did. What that means is that we still can't run when we want to run, but rather, we can only run when the defense gives us the run. Short yardage, goal line, and protecting a lead late in the game will still be problematic. Honestly, we are only an OL away from being a very good team and contending. Given the amount of money and picks we've pumped into the OL ... that's very unfortunate.
