The Dolphins had their first day of minicamp on a hot Tuesday in Davie. The team began with activities starting inside the bubble for the first 40 minutes before moving outside at the Doctors Hospital Training Facility. Players worked on individual up-tempo drills in both the individual periods and the team periods. Here are my takeaways from today’s practice:
1) Tempo – It was very evident today that players on offense, defense and special teams brought a lot of energy to the field. There was an obvious difference in the speed from the OTA’s to minicamp. The on-field session was still of the non-contact variety but the players were moving with more urgency as they were moving from drill to drill with a sense purpose. It appeared as if the concentration and the execution was at a higher level on Tuesday than it was throughout the OTA sessions that have taken place over the last three weeks.
2) Greg Jennings Is Legit – The Dolphins offense is going to be very explosive in the 2015 season. The amount of different body types and different skill sets that the team has this year at the wide receiver position is a key reason for my optimism about the offense as a whole. The player that stood out today was wide receiver Greg Jennings. You can tell by watching him run routes that he’s a complete professional. He’s crisp coming in and out of his routes and he catches the ball very cleanly. Most importantly, he’s a receiver that is very quarterback friendly. It seems like he always gives you a place to target the football and even if the throw is slightly off, he frames the catch very easily. This skill reminds me of a catcher in baseball that can frame a pitch; making a fastball just off of the plate appear like a strike when maybe it was outside the strike zone. Jennings frames the football very well and keeps it away from the defenders. He is a player that could really make a big impact on the offense. Not only because of his skill set but with his fellow players gaining a lot of attention, Greg Jennings could pick up a lot of very easy throws and take advantage of run after catch opportunities.
3) Following The Script – There was a lot of teaching going on for both the offense and defense during the OTA’s but on Tuesday it went from the classroom to the field. The offense ran specific plays in the team drills and during 7-on-7 specifically so the defense could see the certain motions, formations and the ball going in different areas. The defense did the exact same thing for the offense so players could see certain coverage schemes, blitzes, and combinations. The offense had scripted plays to run against what the defense was doing and the same for the defense. Overall, it was a good teaching day and the periods went for a lot longer than OTA’s as there was more field time, plays, and opportunities for coaches to evaluate not only the starters but also the second and third teams. Everything was caught on film today during the scripted periods so the coaching staff can get a true evaluation of what was going on both offensively and defensively.

Also, they thought Taylor and Aikens stood out on D, and that you can't take much of anything from the OL and DL without pads and contact.
Theydid an interview with new Phin CJ. Found out he has been a Phan since he was a kid because of "Dan The Man."
