The Miami Dolphins are hoping to find a diamond in the rough, with four undrafted rookie linebackers on the current roster. Mike Hull, Neville Hewitt, Jeff Luk and Zach Vigil are all vying for a coveted spot on the final 53-man roster.
This week, our FinsOn4 Rookie of the Week is Zach Vigil.
“For me, my mind set, whether I was drafted or not, was you have to come in and you have to earn your spot,” said Vigil. “At this level, even if you’re drafted, if you’re not doing your job they’ll bring someone else in who can get it done.”
Vigil plays middle linebacker, a position otherwise known as the quarterback of the defense, meaning this rookie is calling the shots when he’s on the field.
“There’s a little more on your plate and you have to know what you’re doing,” he explained. “Coaches don’t want to put you out there if you don’t know what you’re doing and our defense, there’s quite a bit to it. Being a young guy, I have to be in my stuff and when I’m done here I have to go watch the film and be back in my play book.”
