Jim Schwartz, on Ndamukong Suh From: ESPN.com
"He's very, very prideful, he's got a lot of long-range goals other than just to get paid in this thing. He wants to be one of the greatest players to ever play. He wants to be a perennial Pro Bowler. He wants to be a Hall of Famer.
"A lot of guys want to get paid for what they've done in the past. I think Ndamukong knows and he relishes getting paid for what he's going to do."
Schwartz coached the Lions from 2009 to 2013. The Lions drafted Suh out of Nebraska second overall in 2010.
Schwartz coordinated Buffalo's defense last season. After Doug Marrone left as head coach and Rex Ryan was hired, Schwartz moved on.
He didn't find a situation he felt great about for 2015, and said he will take the year as halftime in his career while studying the pro and college games. Contracts with Detroit and Buffalo remain advantageous for him.
He's considering moving his family back to Nashville, which he said was his favorite city in his coaching travels. Schwartz spent 10 seasons with theTennessee Titans, including eight as the team's defensive coordinator (2001 to 2008).
Schwartz also spoke highly of two other players who've been in the news.
He said he was "honored to coach" cornerback Cortland Finnegan, who retired Wednesday.
"Although I wasn't talented enough to be an NFL player, if I had been I hope I would have played like him. And that's the highest compliment I can give anybody," Schwartz said.
He also called safety Da'Norris Searcy, who moved from the Bills to the Titans as a free agent, "very versatile."
"He can play linebacker-type roles in nickel and dime and he's tough enough to do that, he's a good enough tackler to do that," he said. "He also has very good instincts on the back end of the field."

If I owned Dolphins, and if it's time to fire Philbin, I'd hire Jim Schwartz (not currently coaching). Fiery, defense-minded, maximized Suh Jeff Darlington (@JeffDarlington) | Twitter

Has this happened in the NFL in recent years...an outside candidate taking over a team mid-season? Or a head coaching search conducted during the season? I don't remember any recent in-season coaching firings where the new coach wasn't already on the existing staff.

Not saying it hasn't happened, just that I don't remember any recent examples.

if I could hit the thumbs up sign ten times I would. I have been clamoring to get this guy in here.

Because it makes so much sense is the reason it will never happen with this motley crew of leaders.

This would be amazing...so it won't happen. We are talking about Miami ya know.

I don't really remember much about him, so I read a bit of info on'em. I like that he didn't just jump into a coaching position in the offseason. Seems didn't like what was available, so he passed. Shows he has confidence. I can guarantee Philbin would have taken any HC job offered

Honestly, anything is better than the dumpster fire we have now.

How does this make sense mid season? Like, you want to get to 8-8? Schwartz will make this defense into top 5 immediately allowing 10 ppg with this roster?

I doubt that has even crossed someones mind in the organization. I am not even completely sure if we are allowed to hire a coach in the middle of the season, I think we can only replace a coach from within the organization.

A talented coach can do a lot in 2 weeks. All these defenses are basically the same, with some wrinkles thrown in. The hard work would have to be done by the coaching to mesh the current system with the new DC.

I firmly believe this team has the talent, and they are simply waiting to be lead and coached by a quality coaching staff.

Wait.. wasn't he the guy that got into it with Harbaugh after a game?

Wasn't it an issue in Detroit with Suh while Schwartz was there? Suh basically did what ever he wanted and Schwartz had absolutely no control over the team

I wonder why he got fired from Detroit ? I do remember the Lions were always a pretty good Defense without having the talent we have (or I think we have).

It wont happen guys....remember that altercation he had with Hargaugh? Well there you go...... As far as our Hichigan Alumni owner goes you don't mess with Michigan people! LOL, I said this as a joke but I wonder if there's any truth to it?? But on a serious note, why would Schwartz come here as a DC? Only way he comes here is as a coach.

Schwartz as DC is the one thing i want more than anything
