What did everyone think of his offense and his coaching ability?
I love his approach. I love his enthusiasm. I love how he has empowered Henne. Chad truly looks like a new QB out there, confident in his abilities. Daboll seems to have a lot of passion on the field and its great that he is in the thick of it on the sidelines able to have good communication with everyone throughout the game.
I think he sort've outsmarted himself a bit in the goal line situations and definitely needs to fix some of that up, but overall I came away impressed.
What was your read on the guy?
daboll was the right guy. the new offensive philosophy the new approach. the way henne and marshall have come along, the improvement in henne, the measure of confidence he is starting to build, the things his teammates are saying -all very positive.
ive been saying it for 3 year tho. in fact much longer than that. u win by being aggressive. u win by attacking the opposing team. by creating mismatches. by attacking the entire field. by threatening the entire field if u arent attacking it. in otherwords ted ginn NOT catching passes sometimes is better than ted ginn not even being on the field at all. this is why a great quarterback changes everything. u have the ability to attack the entire field. defenses have to be concerned about every inch.
this is also why a mobile quarterback can help even if he doesnt run.
daboll gets it and thats fantastic. it causes excitement amongst the offensive players. that energy leads to better play. football players WANT to attack. they dont want to play not to lose. it sucks for them as bad as it sucks for us. u dont want that energy around your football team. and its precisely why we have lost in miami for 20 years. our unwillingness to WIN games. and that spills over even into personal decisions and draft picks.
for this hire give sparano credit. for changing give sparano credit. make no mistake tho - he was FORCED to change. he knows he almost got fired. and its sad that it took that for him to change, instead of figuring it out a long time ago. how long has he been in the game? its sad. its sad how long both the media, coaches and fans have bought into this dumb *** defense wins championships run the ball 3yrds and a cloud of dust mentality. thats antiquated and has its roots in the beginning of the game a century ago. its a different game it has been for a very very long time. it just took forever for so many of these guys to realize it.
it took a revelation in college football imo for these guys to finally start to get it. it took mid majors knocking off powerhouses with mid major talent and spread offenses to finally get some of these idiots to change their thinking. what happens when u mix talent and attack the field in the same way? well thats what guys like urban meyer showed us.
all that being said. there is a time and a place to run the ball. and u MUST be able and willing to run when the situation calls for it. and its NOT when u get a lead. u dont sit on the ball. the time is when u have first and goal inside the 1. or 3rd and 2 or 4th and 1. u have to be willing to run sometimes on 3rd and 4 and 3rd and 3. u still need the threat of the run, and the willingness to call it or your offense becomes too predictable. spreading everybody out and going no back at the one yard line is not a good move generally.
and throwing a fade to a receiver that shouldnt be catching fades and doesnt have the most reliable hands is simply an awful awful call. and quite frankly i have no idea how he did something so dumb. it doesnt matter if it worked id say the same thing. the only dolphin u throw that pass to is brandon marshall. and perhaps wallace if he ever proves himself. nobody else EVER.
so some very very encouraging things from daboll. love the changes. still gotta call a better game tho. cant make poor calls in the clutch. have to be WILLING to run. lex hillard was successful earlier in the game. what is it about this guy these coaches dont trust??? and WHY???? hes only ever shown good things in games. hes on the roster. USE HIM. trust him, until he proves otherwise. he hasnt given any indication he cant perform. and he did a fantastic job earlier moving his legs when he was stopped behind the line.
daboll thumbs up - but gotta do better. if daboll was here from day one we would have had 3 years of better football. its too little too late tho. his head coach isnt the guy, and we will be starting over next year anyways. so its a mute point
