As always, 7 round mock for our Fins, with the 2 projected Comp Picks.
1.Chris Long DE/OLB, Virginia Had we gotten Pace, I'd say that Jake Long would be the pick, but since we didn't, I'll still say Long. Talking to some of the more respected VIPers, I'm beginning to think Tuna will just cut our losses with Joey Porter., and even if we keep him, Reggie Torbor and Charlie Anderson will probably be playing ILB for us. We need OL, and we will get OL, just not here.
2a.Brendan Alberts OG, Virginia This pick relies havily on 2 things 1)Pittsburgh not drafting him and 2)Nobody jumping ahead of us to take him. Talent wise, Albert is probably the top overall offensive lineman (even ahead of my boy Jake Long), but since he's a guard, he will fall. IF he gets past Pittsburgh, I think he's ours. BUt this is a bit of a risk (Alberts projection will become clear in the coming weeks).
2b.Anthony Collins OT, Kansas This is another guy that is hard to gage where he'll be drafted. I've seen him as our 32nd pick, and I've seen our pick in round 3. For right now, I'm putting him at our second 2nd. This pick will more than likely change in the coming months.
3.Charles Godfrey CB, Iowa Still a tad raw (played his first 2 years at safety), but he's got good size and athleticism. This is a very deep CB class with several potential targets in round 2-4.
4.Kendall Langford DE, Hampton With the switch from a 4-3 to the 3-4 inevitable, we'll need some more DEs. Ferguson will probably be our main NT, but Randy Starks has the size to move over and give him a blow (and we still have Saoli). While Rod Wright,Matt Roth, and Vonnie Holliday can all theoretically make seemless transitions to 3-4 DE, It's gonna be a bit harder for them. Holliday is getting up there in age, Roth might be a tad too small, and a 3-4 DE might be giving to much responsibility to Wright (who did have a bad shoulder injury one year ago). Depth at DE is essential for this scheme to work. Kendall Langford weighed in at 285 lbs, but can and has played up at 300. A lot of scouts compare Langford to Jason Hatcher, a 3rd round pick made by the Tuna in Dallas.
6a.(From Dallas).Caleb Campbell S, Army A player that deserves to go a lot higher than he will, but the Army will scare some teams away.We have shown a lot of interest in the Army S and, if we draft him, I would not be shocked to see him starting Day 1.
6b.(Projected Comp Pick).Darrell Strong TE, Pittsburgh A developmental player, that could turn into a steal. Strong is a QB turned TE (you read it right). Despite signing RYan (ST purposes), I think Parcells is still gonna draft a TE at some point, and have the drafting fight with Ryan,Peele, and Martin for roster spots.
7a.Kevin O'Connell QB, San Diego State Taking QB a lot later than most would hope, but I do think a QB will be drafted.
7b.(Projected Comp Pick)-Justin McKinney CB, Kansas State Why him? We've talked to him a lot since and before the combine. Even if he goes undrafted, I expect him to be at our OTAs.
As usual comments are appreciated. I know quite a few people will hate this mock cause there is no WRs or QBs early, but I did my best to try and build the team how I think The Family will build it.
