A few rumors are starting to roll out of New England over the past few days.
The first is that probably #1 pick McFadden visited the Patriots FO today to start setting the parameters of a contract should he be chosen #1 overall. While it seems a bit early to start contract negotiations, the word around the organization is that the FO is only considering McFadden with the #1 overall pick. When Phinhaven was hired as the GM of the New England patriots, he stated during his first press conference that he was going to surround this team with talent. When pressed about his draft technique he said "As a long time dolphin fan I've learned the hard way that you can't reach for a player, you need to draft the BPA". And the word out of NE is that they feel McFadden is THE best player available in the draft. And it also may be a "need". While NE has a franchise TE, QB, and 3 Franchise WR's, their RB position, while deep is a bit unspectacular. Sammy Morris is a wrecking ball who hits the hold hard, but is slow, Maroney is the opposite and not a work horse. McFadden may give the team the balance that they need to rely on the running game. A large gifted athlete who hits high gear quickly, he could strike further fear in NE's opponents.
Another mumor out of New England involves the status of Franchised player Randy Moss. While the team hopes to hold onto Moss, they could be convinced to move him for a high first round pick, or adequate player compensation. When proded about the possibility of moving Moss, Phinzone replied "We love Randy here, but with the addition of Roy, he's become much more expendable. If he stays, we'll have the most dynamic receiving trio, in the history of the NFL. If he leaves, it will be because we thought it was for the benefit of the team".
The same apparently goes for Franchise QB Tom Brady. With his young age, and low cap salary (5 mil), the Patriots fele that moving him could be a benefit to their team, as Phinzone has expressed interest in bringing in a QB who is more intouch with his teachings.
We will be updating you as we hear more word out of New England.
