OK guys the celebration is going strong and so I got bored and am going back and watching the tape again (TV, not coaches tape). For those of you who have the tape go back and correct me if I am wrong, but did we not get away with a HUGE illegal formation on that first TD?? Go to the play and then they go to commercial and then they come back and break down the play and show a diagram where it shows Ricky going in motion, look at where Chad is lined up. He is outside the 5 at about the 6 and the LOS is the 3 and there is no other reciever or TE to cover the tackle. Both sides of the formation has to have the tackle covered, right?? That is my understanding any way. I haven't looked at the other plays yet but that stood out to me.

according to the offical NFL rules the further most WR on both sides of the formation has to be on the LOS. Go to Offical NFL Rules and go to 2nd section number 7 (illegal formations).ILLEGAL FORMATION: An offensive formation in which not enough players are on the line of scrimmage.
Fewer than 7 players on the line of scrimmage (or more than 7 in NFL), fails to have an eligible receiver as the leftmost and rightmost players on the line in the NFL, or fails to have five properly numbered ineligible players on the line.

AHH, very good I didn't notice that at first. You are in fact right, number 80 was playing LT. That is probably what messed with the pats defense. So in fact Chad was not eligble to be a receiver since the further most RECEIVER has to be on the line and that was the TE. Gotcha!!!
Very interesting

Don't know what happened. My last post disappeared.. Anyways here's a screenshot of it again. Just click on the picture to enlarge if it's not blurry.

Jake Long is playing on the right side here as a TE with Fasano as the LT with an eligible number.. Basically Fasano and Long switched positions for this formation .. Cleveland does this a lot as well. They moved Joe Thomas to the right side a few times vs the Steelers last week..

So Miami took a page out of Cleveland's playbook as they use Joe Thomas in much the same way.

WOw that also makes sense as to why the TE was so open on the TD where Ronnie threw it, they got used to seeing him as the LT. Ah even more brilliant. Nice!!!!

Yeah, Cleveland ran that about 5 or 6 times last week.. Although I don't remember a time when they put a TE at the LT position.. Usually they left it vacant and just going heavy on one side..

so they had-

LG-C-RG-RT-LT-TE

one other time Cleveland had a man in motion and he took off from the LT spot at the snap..

It seems like Miami liked the idea of keeping a TE there better.

It's nice to see the staff actually use some new inventive plays from other teams, and change it up a bit for their own benefit, all in the course of a one week preparation.. Not bad.
