Not knowing what 7th round pick the Dolphins gave up for Tony McDaniel I'm going to assume it's the 197th pick from Cleveland.

1st round- 25th-----C. Barwin....OLB/TE...No OLB in this draft has more upside than Barwin. It's rare to find a player that has his speed, size and agility and can play two positions. The fact that he show so well at the combine and also at his pro-day just makes him more than likely to be gone before the Dolphins select at 25...but I will keep him the Dolphins pick, at this time.

2nd Round- 44th----Sean Smith...CB...A Parcells type of player...size decent speed. He would help covering the larger receivers the Dolphins will face at least twice a season.

"Smith has rare skills that might allow him to stay at corner against tall and talented NFL receivers. He bolstered that opinion at his pro day workout with a 40-yard time of 4.43 seconds. His 40 time at the combine was 4.50. As a starter the past two seasons, Smith was extremely productive with nine interceptions and 15 pass breakups. He actually began his career at wide receiver for all but two games of his redshirt freshman season."

2nd Round- 56th---Herman Johnson... RG/RT...A mountain of a man that can play at both Guard and RT. He has shown that he understands that he had to lose weight...and he has done so...weighing in at 356. When you look at him playing next to Carey...it has to make the rushers giddy.

"Despite his massive frame and considerable bulk, Johnson is surprisingly light on his feet, registering 16 down field blocks over the past two seasons. He shows very good mechanics for a player of his size and his road grading ability could see him shift to offensive tackle in the NFL, as he also has performed at right tackle during the earlier stages of his career with the Tigers."

3Rd Round- 87th---Shawn Nelson---TE....Has alot of upside as a TE...Needs to add weight but has very good speed.

I don't see David Martin sticking with the team and wouldn't be surprised if he was traded after the draft.

4th Round- 122....Johnny Knox...WR...A receiver with blazing speed and natural hands. Needs work running routes...but has ability and is aggressive over the middle.

5th Round- 153....Jasper Brinkley...ILB....Productive ILB that is coming off a injury in 2007.

"At the combine, Brinkley sped through 40 yards in 4.67 seconds, leaped 35?? inches in the vertical jump and showed that he is plenty strong by benching 225 pounds 26 times. He has the strength to be a force inside and the speed to rush off the edge."

7th Round- 215...Cris Baker...NT....Great Numbers...checkered past....thats why he will drop. With the 215th pick you don't lose much in taking a chance on him.

7th Round- 220...Demetrius Byrd...WR...Unproductive WR...with blazing speed. You can never have enough fast receivers and it's time to load up on the offense.

Not great. Barwin is a first round reach, one year of productivity.
Smith at 44 is great.
Herman Johnson is a bad pick that early. Man with out a pos. Too tall for G., IMO.Waste that early.
Nelson-good player, not a need.
Knox-3-4th receiver, that doesnt help us.
Brinkley- solid pick
Baker-in the 7th. HAHAHAHA
Byrd- LOL @ him having "blazing speed"
I would be very unhappy with such a draft.

Matthews has only played 10 games...yet he's rated a first rounder.

Herman Johnson makes alot of sense...when you need road graders and a guy who can also play RT...if the need arises.

Since when does it hurt to have a receiver with blazing speed...either taken with the 4th pick or the 7th.

By the way...Byrd ran a 4.3 at his Pro-day...and also was timed in the 4.3's when he came to LSU.

TE not a need? Really? Martin is going on his 10 season...Fasano is good but not great...and it sure doesn't hurt to add some talent and youth.

Baker will drop...some teams will not even have him on their boards.

Baker struggled with off-field incidents at Penn State. He was suspended from the team at the end of the 2007 season and finally dismissed from the Nittany Lions in July 2008 after pleading guilty to two counts of misdemeanor assault and criminal trespass following two fights in 2007. He received two years of probation. Baker showed versatility playing at defensive end in a 3-4 after starting the year at nose tackle for Hampton. He earned first-team All-MEAC honors with 62 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. Baker and his family decided it was time to leave the Pirates after his redshirt junior season, but character concerns follow him into the NFL.

personally i wouldnt pick Matthews in the first either.

you dont select a 2nd round for "IF the need arises". specially with all the true NEEDs as of today

If you swapped Knox and Brinkley you would probably be more correct

I certainly hope Martin isnt traded, despite people overrating Fasano(who was good) Martin was our best TE last year. Even though Martin is going on his 10th seasons, hes still only 30 years old. so thats not a good arguement. honestly if we picked a TE in the 4th or 5th i wouldnt have a problem. 3rd is to high for a 3rd string TE as of today IMO.

I love how your argument for Barwin is that Matthews isnt good. Such a lame argument. No one mentioned Matthews, he also is a 2nd round prospect and would be a reach at 25. Baker wont fall that far, he is the best NT after the BC boys, so many teams are running the 3-4 he will rise not fall.

I like the first two rounds, I'm not one for two WR's that are really project guys because we have Bess and London I 'd rather get a top one off the board early if we're gonna select one at all (although the 6/7th rounds are great places to find one). I really do not see Baker falling to the 7th, his past is keeping him from going in the 2nd so really 3rd or 4th round is where I see him going and to boot because there are a few more teams now going 3/4 it ups his value. It would also surprise me if Brinkley last until the 5th for all the same reasons as for Baker, he has the mold that BP loves so if he wants him then I hope he makes sure we get him, I say 3rd round because he'll be selected early in the 4th.
I also do not see any reason for a TE when we have Fasano, Martin and Haynos. There's alot of other positions that do not have that kind of depth that we can help like CB, ILB, Safety, FB and most important OT (I know you said Herman can play both but if wins out a guard spot we would have no OT depth).

In the past the Dolphins kept players past their prime...today we have a management that doesn't. I fully believe that for these reasons Martin will be traded...one his age...he's 30 on a team that is getting younger...two...his cap...for the same reason Parcells has gotten rid of players in the past...you get younger and cheaper by drafting talent. Third and last reason, the draft is weak at TE...perhaps you have three top TE's that will make a difference...some team will need a TE with experience...thats Parcells out....perhaps he gets a 4th rounder at best a 3rd rounder for Martin...but it keeps the fresh blood coming in for either this draft or next years draft.

Two of the three are very young and Martin isn't exactly an old man at all, plus I believe there's alaways quality TE's available cheap via FA every year. I have no problem taking a TE if one free falled to us where he becomes BPA. Barwin is a project type player and can play some TE aswell so why draft another one to be our 3rd TE, isn't that overkill in a position that really doesn't need it.

Bottom line is I'd rather over draft Oline, Dline and pass rushing LB's that all will play a bigger role for us.

Here's why Martin....I believe Martin becomes a free agent next season.

Here's the list;

That's the number of Dolphins unrestricted free agents that currently are scheduled to hit the open market in 2010. That list includes Chad Pennington, Will Allen, Anthony Fasano, David Martin, Matt Roth, Jason Ferguson, and Davone Bess.
