Fitzpatrick announces retirement.

Fitz served the Dolphins magnificently as a low cost veteran transition QB under some difficult circumstances. He helped in Tua's development as an NFL QB. High character. High intellect. Great passion. I'd love to see him in some role within the Dolphins organization.

Fitz got done dirty in Tua's rookie year, real dirty.
Actually it was Tua who was done dirty in his rookie season. Coming off the type injury he had, there is no way any competent Head Coach would have played him during that season. The type injury he had takes 18-24 moth to recover from and he was forced to play less than 10 months after the injury occurred.

Tua was also forced to play in an offense designed for Fitzpatrick by an OC who was hired simply because he was coming out of retirement because Fitzpatrick was going to be the starting QB.

Fitzpatrick was nothing but a career backup who was signed to start until they drafted a young QB and that young QB was ready to start. Tua should not have played during his rookie season but it wasn’t because Fitzpatrick was the Dolphins starting QB. He should not have played because he was still recovering from major surgery and forcing him to play did nothing but put his health and career in jeopardy, IMO.

Tua has now had time to fully recover from the hip injury and surgery and you can see from pictures that he is much bigger and appears to move much better than he did in his rookie season. Now it’s up to Tua to prove he is the long term answer at QB for the Dolphins.
