If you ask the experts, the Miami Dolphins will be a special sort of bad this season. But if you ask Dolphins fans, many will tell you the team is better off without all the talented players the team jettisoned this off-season.

This is pretty much standard procedure in South Florida, where fans take the team's off-season bait, hook, line, and sinker, every year. The Dolphins are undefeated in May since 1966. Every June, they've got all their troubles figured out. Every July, the coaches blow the football world's socks off with the new and exciting offense they drew up on ****tail napkins in the off-season. Every August, the team is kicking its own ass in practice, which is, oddly, great news.

Then September comes around with real NFL games, and the Dolphins inevitably disappoint everyone. It's a vicious circle every Miami fan under the age of 40 knows too well. Here are just a few of the ways the Dolphins overhype their off-season every year.

This pretty much sums up why I’m more pessimistic than most. I hear these things every season and it’s always usually the opposite of what the optimists says will happen.

I pretty much agree with 2 through 5, but the Tannehill bashing is getting old. How many teams in the league are actually better off than us at QB? This isn't Madden where you can trade for Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers and win every game. In the real world, great QBs are rare, hard to find, and very expensive. How about we start worrying about when the Dolphins are going to put a competent team on the field, instead of trying to gamble big on a QB at every possible chance.

I hear you. He's far from elite, but definitely a serviceable NFL quarterback. I strongly believe an NFL team could win the super bowl with Tannehill. The Eagles could have.

F... this thread and this article.

The Dolphins have SUCKED so long that its now PAINFUL to be a Dolphin fan.
That said - this is Gase's team - he has speed and he has youth and he has dynamic packages on both sides of the football.
And the Dolphins need to grow the F up now and FAST!
Its time to bring us back to glory days!

Nobody ever said the line was fixed the last like 5 years. It was the opposite. I also don’t remember anyone being excited when Marshall and Davis were traded. But I do think that the “leaders” we had weren’t cutting it. Landry put up big numbers in catches but the offense was as stagnant as ever. Pouncey couldn’t practice and never showed much leadership on the line. Suh is just Suh, a great player that’s on his own path.

Can't really argue with article, he's spot on. We do hear those things every season only to get burned. I do think however signing Sitton and getting Kilgore was finally a legitimate fix to the O line. I am cautiously very optimistic about this year's group.

Isn't this the same with every other team in the NFL during the off-season? Every team's fans are optimistic before the season starts, but no one knows how each season is going to play out. Teams that look like they are going to be good end up disappointing and teams that supposedly have low expectations end up surprising.

Yep thats the way itvis. History has been repeating itself to long. Drafts really have been better since Shulas last few years not spectacular but better. JJ years much better. Anyway thats why I focus on the quality of the coaching more than the talent on the field. Gases first year our talent was poor imo, made the playoffs and thus Gase and phins, got me hopeful then last year with a much more talented team minus RT I hear the player excuses again which has me doubful, BUT it sounds like we have some good assistant coaches so I am fence sitting at this point.

Every body is 0-0 and every year is different. Things can turn around fast in the NFL these days. No reason why we can’t get a couple of early wins and build from there

One other big thing we hear every year is how talented we are. After letting go two of our most talented players, I don't see it. Sure, if all the rookies and 2nd year players pan out and all that, as with every team. But I don't know how far you can go when your best areas are no better than solid. A lot of players need to take a step forward for this team to amount to something good, and that's not usually a recipe for success.
