Dolphins 'comfortable' with backfield? Try again

New Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said he's "comfortable" with Miami's backfield. Don't believe a word of it.

The depth chart -- Jay Ajayi, Damien Williams, Jahwan Edwards, Daniel Thomas and Isaiah Pead -- is missing a lead dog, something the 'Fins must agree with after swinging and missing on both C.J. Anderson and Chris Johnson in free agency. Ajayi showed sparks as a rookie, but will new coach Adam Gase trust the second-year runner to carry the load? Don't bank on it. Armed with the No. 13 pick, Miami remains a candidate to trade up -- maybe with the Browns at No. 8 -- for Ohio State'sEzekiel Elliott.

If that doesn't happen, Grier and football czar Mike Tannenbaum will grab help soon after. Round 2 could bring Alabama's Derrick Henry or Utah's Devontae Booker to South Beach. Sitting put, though, is not an option. -- Marc Sessler

i keep having this feeling we're trading up....and i dont like it

The smokescreen seems to be VH3 IMO. We need a CB and he is the best one in the draft but all you have heard is "he is too small", "he is a slot cb", "he may of failed a drug test" . . . .no interest at all reported by Miami. I find it very hard to believe.

it was reported last week that Hargreaves and Elliott were the targets

I happen to believe that they are sticklers for size at boundary corner in this scheme...we'll see

Hargreaves is a much safer pick in an off man scheme

Really? I missed that then. All I have seen is Zeke, Jack and big corners. Hell Maxwell coming out today stressing that coach Joseph told him he likes big corners is like more smoke to throw people off VH3.

Thanks for posting.

Also worth mentioning that they brought up Hackenberg hype.

If its for Myles Jack, i'll be a happy camper.

I am OK with trading up under some circumstances. I see trading up to #8 AND grabbing Myles Jack the idea scenario (obviously behind getting him at 13).
Trading up to 8 for Zeke or Hargreaves would be acceptable, too.

Trading up to 3, especially for a RB, would be a harder pill to swallow.

i happen to think the ezekial Elliott target stuff is legit unfortunately...theres too much consistent smoke there for it not to be

potential for an ugly trade up is definitely there

Oh I think its legit at 13, if they trade up its gonna be for Bosa, Jack or VH3 tho.

I cant see them trading up to 8 for RB. I just can't.

There is a chance they could trade up to THREE for EE. That would be rough.

Cleveland is a hot spot for a trade out

for us would cost our 3rd rounder either this year or next

I do think that Tannenbaum and Grier are going to be more focused on measurables than Tannenbaum and Hickey were but ultimately I agree with you. I also think it's possible to overstate our preference for length in corners. If Hargreaves is there I can't imagine too many other players we'd take ahead of him.
