I'm usually just a lurker here, but am a long time fan who watches every snap of every game like most of you. I can't help but think with a solid OLine, so many problems simply go away. First, an established running game. Mia's running game is a joke. You cannot blame Miller. It was a rare occasion for him to get to the line of scrimmage without major contact. I think he is a "B" running back in this league which is plenty for this team, given we get the 3 WR's back healthy (Gibson, Hartline, Wallace) and imagine the TE tandem of Clay & Keller. If you have a solid OLine, and can run the ball on purpose, instead of to free up time for the passing game occasionally, you increase time of possession, taking pressure off the defense. Also, I don't know why I believe this, but I'd bet anything if we had a bona-fide running game, the deep passes would start to click w/RT & Wallace. I think RT would have more room with which to throw and feel comfortable with his release. Defensively, I would like a play-making safety (ours are both posers - poor tacklers, pay-check collectors), and a minor upgrade to the LB core somewhere. They aren't great, but they aren't our major problem. Last, on special teams, I am done watching Thigpen. He doesn't have "it", whatever "it" is. He plays as scared as I feel while watching him. May consider a new kicker too, as I'm not sure we have consistency in the making there. Bottom line, with a solid OLine, I think we're looking at a deep playoff run. Whatever Ross decides on coaching is fine with me as long as they fix the OL.

I will say I was happy to see Miller run hard yesterday. Ran with a little more power than he's shown for most of the season. He made a mistake by not gaining more weight...he stayed at 205 and he should have put on about 10 lbs to give him a little more strength. He did get knocked back this year too often and he went down on contact too easily.

I was equally upset that when Miller was stood up yesterday and still fighting for yardage our O-line stood around and watched. You see RBs get stood up and fight for yardage on other teams and inevitably an O-lineman comes and pushes the pile forward to gain a few more yards...our guys are freakin taking pictures. Really ticked me off.

Just another confirmation that we should have taken Lane Johnson instead of Dion Jordan with the 3rd pick.

Even with all the crap that happened with the O Line this year we could have had Johnson and then added another O Lineman in the upcoming draft and would have been set for a decade...now it's back to rebuilding again and we're setback at least 3-5 years.

Thanks to Ireland the A hole

No...the issue this year was just OL. Next year, we will be losing the heart of the DL, probably grimes, and we still have **** LB's...

It isn't just the OL...

It's not that simple. We all assumed the run defense would be good again, and yet it got a lot worse. Every season is different with new problems.

Not saying the run defense wasn't a problem, but if you have the ability to run the ball effectively, control time of possession, etc,. that definitely helps. I think run defense definitely needs improved, but if I had my choice, it would be the OLine in a heartbeat. A lot of times we gave up tons of rushing yards late in games, mostly because we were worn down. I also attribute a lot of the rushing defense issues to the LB's & Safeties, as also mentioned in the opening post. When's the last time we had a safety who would really pop a RB around the line of scrimmage?

I have been real hard on Miller all year...I still think he is just a 3rd down or change of pace back, but he gets a gold star from
me on Sunday's game..He ran hard, though some contact and was one of the few players that I thought actually fought yesterday.

the run d was bad bc the lb were so bad, our DT rated high but wheeler, elerby and misi were really bad. miller ran hard i liked what i saw from him yesterday and a improved oline would help this team a ton.

OL won't fix the lack of a breakaway RB; OL won't fix issues in DB corp; OL won't solve need for game-changing seam threat TE; OL won't fix piss poor return game... or the LBs... or blitz pickup... or screen game..

yes fixing the OL solves issues.. but only as those pertaining to the OL imo

A new coordinator who game plans and adjusts will also make the offense rejuvenated. Imagine a sneak or creative call on third or fourth and an inch...changes the complexity of a game.

Who's responsible for that fact? Ireland? Or did Joe Philbin ask him to make the changes. For the record, Had Martin worked his a$$ off and the Incognito thing didn't happen we would have made the playoffs. Philbin's whole career revolves around being an Offensive line coach. What happened?

JUST REMEMBER
We had the opportunity to get Brandon Albert for a second round pick
yet we used that pick on Jamar Taylor who produced 3 tackles all season
