if Flacco is projected to go in the first round, we could leverage him to smoke out the Falcons

let the word out that we love Flacco and Ryan and that if we can't trade down/up to the last 3rd of round 1, we will take Ryan

the additional caveat is that we want the QB we draft to be signed ASAP

message to Atlanta: "if we get additional picks and Flacco, you can have exclusive rights to Ryan and get him signed early". win/win

Looks like Atlanta is trying to downplay any interest they have in Ryan, although I don't necessarily buy into it.

New Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff has expressed concerns about playing a young quarterback without the proper parts in place to protect him. That doesn't mean he couldn't draft Boston College's Matt Ryan, considered the top quarterback prospect, and have him sit for most of the season.
