Jason Allen, getting third-team snaps, has been erratic. ``It's been the same thing my whole career,'' Allen said of the need to prove himself. ``I prefer [defending] bigger receivers than speedy guys like Davone Bess.''

note: maybe this is an indication of why he's not done well so far. Also, if his specialty is defending bigger receivers, maybe someone should ask him about the Randy Moss debacle.

to be fair, at least on that point, Randy Moss is the big receiver of bigger receivers.

he actually played well on moss. he played him better than andre goodman..

If I recall correctly he got tooled by Moss, embarrassingly so.

Also, for him to refer to Bess as speedy- please. Bess is quick, not speedy. I read that quote as confirmation that he's done- basically saying he only likes to play big WR's, not little fast ones. I'm sure that the Dolphins coaches love to see that- no doubt opposing defensive coaches appreciate his heads up about what his preferences are as they search for mismatches.

Jason Allen has had chance after chance after chance and he has not stepped up. This is the NFL. I think there is a reason why we brought three talented corners in this offseason to go along with Gibril. He has made some plays on the football in his days here but his coverage has been suspect. Still a long TC and preseason to come. Time will tell.

Nice to hear Jason Ferguson is helping out the younger players. If his consideration of Soliai as his 'younger brother' translates into him playing like his older brother, you might just see a very productive year out of Paul.

I also remember Allen (Jason that is) playing well against Moss. Of course Moss had his share of catches but Allen was always with him and didn't allow big plays. To be fair, it's not like Moss is a high-school receiver or something. He's up there with best ever......

JA is done.

There was a certain "sour grapes" quality to his comment, and maybe a little passive aggression. I think that he's a goner- he might make it until the final cuts because I doubt that the team wants to do him any favors by releasing him early.

to be fair to JA, he did do a good job on moss. the play where he gave up a td he was playing 7 yards off the line and it was obvious the fade was coming. i know coordinators know more than me, but why don't defenses chicken fight with moss at the line as they get closer to the goaline, playing off leaves increases the possibility of a jumpball which is almost impossible to defend against moss. his td in the super bowl, the time when he scored on the last play against the jets, and this particular play they were all giving him too much room close to the goaline. also, he shut down lee evans and brandon marshall this year if anyone remembers.

Not sure if you guys remember or not but JA escaped a 60 yard touchdown from Moss on a terrible call by the ref. I think they called Moss on OPI when it clearly wasn't.
We got very lucky on the call.

It's sad he never turned out to a good Free Safety. When we drafted him I thought he was a lock to be a good if not very good safety. That draft talent wise was very weak.

After he broke his hand. Plus, it was Randy Moss.
