I don't believe it. Unusual for him.

While we agree that no candidates should interview for a job without full information about what the duties will be, the idea of rejecting a General Manager’s job because it amounts to what’s known in league circles as “G.M. Light” would be a mistake.

For most if not all of the candidates linked to the Miami job, “G.M. Light” would be a promotion. Basically, “G.M. Light” is better than no G.M. at all.

Under Wooten’s theory, minority candidates also should pass on the chance to become “G.M. Light” in Tampa, where coach Lovie Smith reportedly has control over the roster. Throughout the league, teams have General Managers and Vice Presidents of Player Personnel who don’t have final say over the roster. From the Patriots to the Steelers (sort of) to the Chiefs to the Eagles to the Saints to the Rams, plenty of General Managers don’t hold full and complete control.

If Wooten is going to apply that standard in Miami, then Wooten needs to apply that standard to every other team that uses a “G.M. Light.”

Yep. There is still plenty of work for a GM to do, and not picking talent could be a boon for a guy who specializes in other aspects like people skills, contract negotiations, or capology.

Florio is terrible but he's finally right for once. You find out about a job during the interview. I dont get the hoopla. If i interview for a computer technician job i might not know the extent of my responsibilities. Every company has different standards

Aponte is our capologist. She is an attorney/accountant. She is NOT, and has never been, a talent evaluator (i.e. - she is not a GM nor should she be).

On top of his points, i havent seen any proof that this is a "GM Light" position. The only "evidence" is Ross' refusal for explanation on the job and an unclear meeting(The Dolphins not explaining things clearly? Perish the thought!).

Where a lot FPA's speculation and confusion comes from was Ireland's potentially demoted role and hiring someone over him. To me, its clear that was a one time suggestion meant exclusively for an employee already receiving a paycheck. Now that hes gone its clear we are only looking for a replacement GM. If we were still looking for that set up, one would think we'd be interviewing twice as many people and the media would be throwing around the terms such as "Vice President" on top of "GM".

Theres a lot of things to be upset about when it comes to the Stephen Ross run Dolphins. This is a total nonissue. Its slightly embarrassing that the FPA refused to back us, but ultimately its of little actual impact. We've already set up interviews with minorities, we have an attractive job, and even if Ross doesnt clear this issue up himself those who are interviewed will inevitably leak whats we are looking for. This will work itself out.

Florio is a dick and I prefer him not on our side on anything.

The race baiters are always looking for an opportunity. I am glad Ross clearly stated the structure of the team. As a fan, I could care less what sex or race our GM is, I am only concerned that they can build a championship team full of HOF players.

The Fritz Pollard folks should speak up when minorities are getting hired for "GM Light" positions only, while non-minorities are getting hired for the more prestigious GM positions. At that point they can make a case for discrimination. At this point they're a little off the mark and outside their territory in my opinion.
