I hate this argument b/c you are talking about the EXCEPTION (Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson). Alex smith didnt win a SB or get there so that is null and void. It doesnt apply here. You are talking about 1 specific example about a guy who had agruably the best Defense in the past 25 years in Baltimore and Tampa Bay that year also has a LIGHTS OUT defense. Yes it COULD happen but its the exception not the rule.
When you make an argument you need to speak on the majority not the exception. There are exceptions to every single situation but its not enough to make an argument.
Using your theory we should draft a 6 foot QB b/c Brees is successful. NO Dice!
first of all, u do realize i want peyton manning so im not saying roll with mediocrity, right?
also, aside from the johnson and dilfer, jeff hostetler, doug williams, etc. i understand most of the time you want to win you need a great qb, that is why i want manning and not flynn.
all i was saying is with the right weapons, any qb can be on a superbowl winning team, thats what im saying. the odds are against any team winning the superbowl regardless of who qb is because only 1 will win it each year out of 32.
the difference is a guys like manning, brady, rodgers, etc can overcome bad defensive performances and win shootouts weekly, as opposed to guys like flynn who will need the right guys around him to be succesful. flynn wont make anyone better, his talent around him will be the determination of how well he does.
manning can make a guy like bess and hartline look like pro bowlers.
