Flynn will not receive Packers franchise tag

I keep reading this same story and still struggle with the Packers giving Flynn away on a silver platter.

Could they not restructure a few contracts, sign Finley long term with a back ended contract and tag Flynn just to secure the 2nd round pick they most likely will get by eventually trading him?

If he performs well, they will end up with a nice compensatory pick any way...

I am starting to wonder just how much better Flynn is than Moore.

The press is sure eating it up. But we haven't heard any peeps from our new staff as to their interest in Flynn specifically. That's either a very good sign (keeping it hush hush) or very bad sign (not interested in him as our QB).

If they are not interested that is not a bad sign. It's a sign that they dont think he is the guy, so if they don't pursue him that's fine with me. I know people would complain if they don't pursue him, but those same people definitely do not more about what Philbin knows.

Even if Flynn isn't our guy, someone (Washington, Seattle, Cleveland) will snap him up and take themselves out of the QB Market. This is win-win for us.

Problem is the tag is $14 million and fully guaranteed.

So if no one thinks Flynn is worth it and is willing to sacrifice BOTH a 2nd round pick AND a $50 million contract, the Packers would be screwed.

They don't have the cap space to wait on a trade either.

Why is this even news worthy? Why would Packers franchise tag 2 game wonder QB? Please... Only people drooling over him are found here.

Because he is the hottest FA QB on the market right now and there is a big buzz about teams bidding aggressively for him in free agency. If you think this is the only place that there's a lot of talk about Flynn, think again.

The Patriots franchised Matt Cassel and, quite frankly, he had a full 15 games to showcase that he was a caretaker QB. And still someone ponied up for that trade.

Again... We'll see how many teams will be willing to dish out a big contract on 2 game wonder.

I love how you call him a 2 game wonder. And who are you in favor of? RGiii, Tannenhill, 0 game wonders. Or how about Manning...3 neck surgery wonder.

I like how the Fins are going about their business in terms of the QB. Look at Manning, they no about Flynn and have options in the draft.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel now confirms that free agent Matt Flynn receiving the Packers' franchise tag is "not going to happen."

There's a shocker

I really do think that Flynn is the guy we are going to get. We can speculate and dream for Peyton Manning but Flynn seems to be the most realistic fit.

I'm with you on this one

Do you know you many posts I saw about him getting the tag from GB this year? Not shocking to quite a few.

I saw them too, had to laugh, I posted last week what his franchise number would be and it was crazy. Average of top 5 QB's in league. He would actually make almost twice what Arron Rogers makes. (aprox. $7.25 mil) There is no way they would do that, he'd have a better chance of seeing God!

If flynn comes it better be to compete with moore. I wouldnt throw 50 million at that guy for anything.
