I knew there was more to the Marshall trade that we did not know. At first I thought WOW, this trade MUST mean Peyton to the Dolphins because it seemed like such a bad deal. Now it is becoming clear that this was probably not Peyton related or Manning may have only been a small factor. It looks like our FO still made the right choice because Marshall is now being accused of hitting a woman at least two days prior to the Bears trade; "cold ****ing" was the word used. (links below)

Our FO clearly knew about this incident and traded Marshall because they finally have had enough of his on & off the field problems. In hindsight bringing in Marshall in the first place after we knew his history was a mistake that the FO finally cant ignore. I believe he was traded because of this last incident, Prior incidents, his large amount of TD drops and his need to tell everyone in the world as soon as he feels slighted by whomever is his current QB. I think the FO made the only decision it could here. Trade Marshall before he was worth even less on the open market. Even if he was not aiming to hit the woman or was just partially involved he will almost surely be suspended for at least part of next season. After Marshalls BPD "coming out party" last year I wanted badly to believe that marshall was a changed man who was more able to deal with his emotions. I really thought he was better, my fan blinders have been removed now and it is clear. Marshall is not better. I thought , well maybe he just has bad luck. But luck (at least this kind) does not follow you from city to city to city one incident after another for your whole carrier. Marshall is just a really troubled guy. He needs help and I hope he will get it in Chicago and I hope he does get better. I also think he will be happier there.
Now to our team. Sadly Manning is probably not coming to Miami. I feel good that we were one of four teams he actually truly considered of the 12 that contacted him. Those of you saying "we are the worst" "we are the laughing stock" should remember that at almost half of the league contacted Manning and we are in the final 4. We are not the Browns or Redskins, players actually want to play in Miami. Philbin will now get to actually be a coach and not just part of a short term Manning circus act that may or may not pay dividends. Deep down I bet this is what Philbin/Sherman wanted. A chance to take our team on an upward long term path through coaching and drafts. Don't get me wrong I was\and am all about getting Peyton as a short term get us to the superbowl type of play. But we all know that Peyton does not automatically equal super bowl, he's getting old and he may not even last 2 to 3 seasons. The more likely outcome (compared to instant superbowl) If we got manning would be a trip to the playoffs. This would probably be followed by a steep decline in play over the next few years for Manning and could also be halted by re-Injury or another Injury.
Lets chill out as fans and stop calling for the FO's head before we even know the whole story. Lets see what Philbin and co have in store first. Is it Flynn? My guess is that we do go for Flynn but we bow out if he gets too expensive. I think we focus on a retooling of our game plan to fit the west coast offense. I only expect minor tweaks in FA. I expect most of our work to be done in the draft. I think we pick up a young receiver early in the draft or that we get someone that is up and coming in FA to help fill the Marshall void.
