FO sees Wes Welker type potential in Bess

Thats nice and all, but do we have a Tom Brady'esq type QB to turn Bess into the 2007 version of Welker?

This really does grow old. First of all, let me say that I agree with you. I don't think you will find many people who don't.

Now, for the reason that I say the statement is getting old. Yea, Welker is better because he had Brady last year, but he was still a decent receiver in Miami.

His avg yds were about the same in 06 with Culpepper/Harrington throwing him the ball. He had 67 receptions for 687 yds (10.3 yds/catch) in 06 compared to 112 for 1175 (10.5 avg) in 07.

Who cares if Bess isn't the 2007 version of Welker? I would be happy with the 2006 version of Welker as our #3. Wouldn't you?

Davone Bess seems that with a good amount of playing time, he could be dependable. His hands have proven to be great and he's catching pretty much everything thrown at him.

Even if he doesn't put up the huge numbers, if he can make catches when we need him to, he'll be a great steal as and undrafted free agent.

You never know who will shine...

Brady - 6th round

Welker.. undrafted

Colston.. (7th round I believe)

We can hope Bess turns into one of those.

everybody seems too quick to dismiss this. Welker isn't fast, or big. Bess had better stats than Welker in college (I think) and both played in pass happy offenses. I garuntee you when Welker was at TC for San Diego as a UDFA I don't think anybody envisioned that he would have a solid 3 years in Miami getting us a 2nd and 7th from NE.

Which coach(es) is/are still around, from the previous regime, that could have made this comparison?

Just because your getting sick of hearing it, or you feel it is growing old, doesnt mean you can discount it.

Average yards may have been the same, but were touchdown totals? Were # of receptions? Were total yards? No. Y? Perhaps the person throwing the ball to him.

Id much rather have a more productive player than Wes Welker of 06. If I had to settle for him, then id choose Welker. He may have had a 10 YPC average (which is not that impressive if your a WR), if anyone is impressed with his 1 TD and 3 fumbles (1 lost) of 06, then they would be happy with a mediocre, non playoff season.

I have no idea what Bess will turn out to be (neither do any of you) but I will say this. NOONE thought Welker was going to turnout the way he did either. For all of you that think Bess can't be a Wes Welker type of receiver, go back and check Wes' stats for his rookie year... for that matter for his first two seasons...

Personally, I like Bess and his potential... I think he has the ability to fill WW role. The question is will he live up to that potential.

p.s. I don't get why some Dolphins fans are so eager to put down their own players.

I wonder who first discovered that Welker could play WR.

Bess does have quick feet.
