can anyone explain how the vikings managed to get fonouti for a 6th or 7th round pick while we sent over AJ and our 6th for Cleo Lemons?? Seems as if we made yet another foolish mistake. Whats going on with our management?? The most clueless fan could tell we need help on our offensive line and an opportunity opens up for Fonouti and we dont jump on it. We instead swap our 3rd string QB's and give away a pick. :shakeno:

fonouti could not be any worse that what we've got... a decent point pointing out that Houck coached him, but then you still gotta wonder why we gave up a 6th round pick and Feely who we acquired with a 2nd for Cleo. Seems just a bit ridiculous. We've already cleared up over 20 million in cap room. Think a 6th round pick is a bit more valuable

its not a waste of a pick if meuller and saban think lemon has the value of that pick.

EDIT: i know that obvious, but there it is. they made the trade for a reason. they saw something in the guy

Fonoti is not that good Cuz the Chargers are a good team and trust me They wouldn't let him go away if he was the reeeel deeeel

Quite the contrary. Fonoti is and could easily be our best lineman! Yes, our best- the guy is a road grader!

The reason why he was let go is 1. his contract is up this year, and 2. had issues with AJ Smith.

He reported into camp late and overweight. AJ SMITH does not mess around, if youre not committed to the team 100%, then dont let the door hit you in th e butt...Look at the Merriman situation, or look at the Antonio Gates situation this year.

FONOTI was easily a pro-bowler last year, the reason why he wasnt, 3 lineman from KC.

Thats what Ive been saying all day long---if you wanted an IMMEDIATE IMPROVEMENT! GET FONOTI!

What is wrong with you? :shakeno: Don't you think that Saban asked Houck, who has personal experience w/Fonouti, whether he was worth trading for, or was a significant upgrade? You think us fans are smarter than Saban when it comes to these decisions? I seriously doubt that the combination of Saban, Houck and Mueller didn't discuss Fonouti. Cmon, get real.

Supposedly the only other team that made a trade offer to Fonoti was New Orleans, reported by Adam Schefter on NFL Total Access.

As for Toniu Fonoti salary, here's how it looks...

Salary History

2003: $300,000
2004: $380,000
2005: $455,000

2002

Base Salary: $225,000
Sign Bonus: $1,740,000
Other Bonus: $0
Total Salary: $1,965,000
Cap Value: $660,000

2003

Base Salary:$300,000
Sign Bonus: $0
Other Bonus: $3,200
Total Salary: $303,200

2004

I'm not sure how much of an impact his salary had in us not getting him... perhaps his injury? (hand)

Sports Illustrated had Fonoti as 1st team All-Pro last year. That's gotta be worth a 6th or 7th round pick.

Easily---as said, only reason why is AJ Smith's way of running the team--which I LOVE!
