Football Gameplan's 2015 NFL Week 1 Dolphins/Redskins Preview

Thanks Emory for taking the time to breakdown our matchup.

Thanks guy

If you could post your video for our entire season outlook.

Always look forward to these even if I don't agree sometimes.

Nice breakdown. The Redskins WRs are scary, especially DJax's deep speed. But I don't think Cousins will have enough time to burn us deep consistently.
Miami 27 Redskins 21.

Decent review, some good points. But you kinda missed some of the biggest points. For instance, here are some other points that really should have made it into a good review:

Dolphins Keys:
1. Protect Tannehill. If the OL can keep the standard rush off Tannehilll, that will force the Redskins to bring more exotic pressure. Less DB's in coverage means Tannehill can get a rythem and start dissecting the Redskins.
2. Convert short-yardage situations. This is not a strength of the Dolphins, but Bill Lazor has used very good playcalling to mask it. For the Dolphins to succeed, they need to continue to convert short yardage.
3. Involve Jordan Cameron. He is the Dolphins best size mismatch for short yardage and red zone situations, and can open up seam routes for explosive plays. He is probably the Dolphins best mismatch on offense, so Tannehill needs to find him early and often.
4. Keep the foot on the gas. The Redskins have a resilient mindset under Cousins. They do not give up. For the Dolphins to win, they will need to keep up the offensive attack even when they have the lead.

Redskins Keys:
1. Kirk Cousins needs to target Kelvin Sheppard and Koa Misi in pass coverage all game. That's their win matchup. Whether it's vs. a TE or a complex WR combo route, those are the two wins for the Redskins receiving corps.
2. Play action passing. The Dolphins defense is very strong when they can pin their ears back and rush allowing the DB's to play tight coverage and not worry about long-developing deep passes. To combat that rush, the Redskins need to run some screens.
3. Do not lose focus on the run game. If the Redskins abandon the run game and try to beat the Dolphins through the air, the Redskins will lose. Suh is tough vs. the run, but to keep the pass rushers honest the Redskins need to mix in a good amount of runs.
4. Take occasional shots deep if the protection holds up. The Dolphins DB's are tough against short and intermediate stuff by playing tight coverage. To loosen that up for the underneath game, the Redskins need to take the occasional shot deep to keep the Dolphins DB's from playing smotheringly tight coverage.
