Despite all those big surprise plays from the Wildcat, like the touchdown pass to a wide-open Patrick Cobbs, the Dolphins do not have a lot of plays over 20 yards. What they do have is a ton of plays of intermediate length -- no offense has gained 11-20 yards on a higher percentage of plays.

Football Outsiders has a pretty complicated rating system that takes play by play data and takes in account defense faced, down, distance and yardage among other things. They actually ranked Miami as the 8th best offense so far this year. They also talk about why Miami has been good this year.

They have the defense ranked 11th and the team 12th overall.

Thats something thats new to see, but I gotta say I love it.:woot:

wow..
cant convert a 3rd and anything over 7
and still ranked high..
nice

They basically love the fact that we consistently move the chains. They do have our special teams ranked 31st however. That seems pretty accurate.

Yeah I thought that would be fixed this year, but I understand you cant fix everything in one offseason. I just hate watching the other team almost always have pretty good field position, but I have confidence we will get that fixed in time.

We're 2 for 34 or so on 3rd down and 7 or more to go....but that means that we're not on 3rd down all the time....we're doing good on 1st and 2nd down for the most part...Chad's the kind of guy that will keep the chains moving by trowing short passes and guys like Cam,Bess and Fasano are doing a nice job of catching those passes and getting 1st downs...they all seem to know their roles.

Ozzy rules!!

I've been hoping for more big plays but a 3 and out is far more rare than it used to be and I am more than happy with the trade off.

Right. I posted elsewhere that, based on stats.inc, Penny is one of the bottom of the league in successful 3rd down conversion pass attempts, but number 4 in the league in in 1sts per pass attempt. So he must be awesome on none 3rd downs (averages over 10 yds a throw on second and long).

well thats what im saying..
yea it sucks to be that low on 3rd and long situations
BUT
obviously we are not getting into to many 3rd and longs so its not to bad
