They have New England at #2 and Dolphins at 14. Bills and Jets didn't even make the top 16.

The rankings are based a lot on the yardage per carry of the running backs. I have to believe that Ronnie helped make our OL rank higher than it is. Last year they had the Phins OL ranked 9th!!! No way, they aren't in the top half of the league IMO, but I'm hoping they are right.

What do you all think? Do you think the Phins OL is better than the Jets and Bills offensive lines?

I think its fair. Last year our right side finished the second half to the end of the seaosn as one of the best right side olines in the league. Actually...I would have put us closer 20 but Im happy with a 14 rank

Our o-line hasn't been as bad as what people cry about. 2 years ago R@R both averaged around 4.5 yards a carry and finished 4th in the NFL in FEWEST sacks given up with Gus (the statue) Ferrote behind them. Saban wanted them tinkered with and wouldn't let what many people consider the greatest O-line coach in NFL history to do his on thing. O-line isn't as big a problem as so many around here make it to be. We are in good hands with HH.

Miami is lucky to be at 14 they should be in the 20's....Jacksonville is getting snuffed them out of the top 2 is crazy IMO.

Who knows. The Jets have a great young center in Mangold, and Ferguson should develop into a very good (but probably not elite) LT. The rest of the line seems ok, but little more.

The Bills look to have upgraded theirs, but the question is how much. They seemingly overspent for a couple of decent, if unspectacular, free agents. That the money happy Redskins weren't exactly falling over themselves to keep Dockery might tell you something. I've seen numerous posts on other boards from Redskin fans who weren't exactly distraught that he left, but we shall see.

they absolutely sucked through six games last year, and mostly stunk the rest of the year. Ronnie Brown was getting hit two yards deep all year. The progress made by the right side was the only light in the tunnel and that was dissasembled.

As a patriot fan i believe we are ranked too high and the colts too low

I commend Football Outsiders for trying to be the Baseball Prospectus of football, and apply the same principles, but they can't. It's harder for a sport that is so team-oriented and one that develops in real-time as opposed to the very much turn-based game of baseball.

They just look silly in the process (Chambers ranked last in the league amongst WRs with so many receptions, please). Every ranking they provide is laden with disclaimers.

I don't think the Pats belong at #2, and I sure don't think Miami's line was better than the Jets. The Patsie's belong in the top 10 and the Jets have a nice young group.

That's not to say that Miami's line won't be better this season because by years end I expect them to be a lot better than some might think. No way they're top 15 right now.

When ranking OLs you also must consider the quick release and accuracy of the QB. Tom Brady has both of those strengths, so their OL doesn't accumulate as many sacks, pressures, etc. I also think that the running game is positively affected by an accurate/efficient passing game... so...

The reason the OL is ranked that high is based solely on RB performance. If they were judging by pass protection performance, we'd be near bottom. I think we may be somewhat better than the Bills but not the Jets (unless we nab Pete Kendall). When Shelton was bumped out of the LT spot, things really turned up for the OL (though Culpepper being benched also helped greatly). But if Carey can convert his performance to LT, things might not be so bad.
