Why, then, did he get lured back into the NFL and accept the challenge of rebuilding the Miami Dolphins from the front office, taking over a team that went 1-15, the worst record in the league, last season? Why is he compelled to start over and try to fix a franchise with more holes than his beloved home golf course? Why can't he simply spend his summer mornings at the track and watch his trainer friends like Nick Zito and D. Wayne Lukas work out their horses and enjoy the relaxing pace of retirement?

Parcells doesn't hesitate before offering the answer.

"I like football," he says. "I've always liked it. The clock's ticking for guys like me. When you're 66, you know you can't do it forever. Sometime you'll have to get off the train. But I still like it and I've been very fortunate to be allowed to be associated with this game and people in this game for a long time. So that's why."

I would think it would be very satisfying too bring in new players and see them become sucessful. Financial rewards as well. Why doesn't Brett Farve retire?? They live for the game.

BP has an unquenchable desire to compete. It's what drives him. Why retire when your doing what you love to do? If your doing what you love for a living, it's not work...It's just fun.

I am still very excited that Parcells came to Miami. Of course I don't really see him sticking around for his entire 4 year contract, but his ideas and structure are what this team needs. Guys like Ireland and Sparano can function without Parcells, but it is nice help for the first time GM and first time NFL head coach to have him around. I think the idea is to build a Parcells team that can ultimately function without Parcells. 5-6 years down the road, hopefully Sparano is able to have Parcells-like results without Bill looking over his shoulder.

In three years I see Bill riding off again into the sunset, but he will leave Miami much better off then they were at the end of the 07' season. Things are looking up for this franchise.

Because he is now part owner of the team and gets paid 4 million a year.

All said and done in his 4 year tenure here he has the possibility of earning up to $30,000,000, between salary, benefits, and ownership of the team. Wouldn't you do it?

Parcells goes to the saratoga race track every year and i live about 15mins from it i dont know if i will see him this year i sure hope so

I think Bill is just tired of trying to motivate. You have to have stamina, for that. You also have to be creative with the motivation. After so long you run out of ideas and it becomes tougher to do. Bill could still be successful, by adding talent without the game in game out pressure, that and not having to deal with the press and we all know how much he hated the press.

I also think we have a long history of success, a great owner and Miami isn't exactly a terrible place to call home. I think any team in the league can be a success even if they are the worst team in the league. So he could have chosen any location to return, but he chose us. I think he did his homework before taking the position and believes we have enough talent to be successful in three years. JMO.

It's like taking candy from a baby (Huzengia). He's in a win-win situation. If the team wins, he's a genuis; if it loses, Sporano is a terrible coach.

Where does it say that he is a part owner? Just asking, I haven't heard this before.

I have to find some details I suppose. I remember seeing he was getting 1% of the team for every year he stayed of his 4 year contract

Yeah, I've seen him there. I think Parcells calls Saratoga home. It's an awesome place, not merely the track but the entire area during summer. I'll miss it this year. Mostly the golf. :)

The locals always complain about winter. I wouldn't know about that, but in July/August it sure beats the 110-115 atrocities here in Las Vegas. Dry heat my flat ***.

Why wouldn't Parcells stay in the game? It's what these guys do. John Robinson ended up at UNLV in his 60s. Schnellenberger is coaching well into his 70s at a smaller school.

Broadcasting seems like a swell job to me, but obviously if you've had control and still think you can have impact, TV doesn't compare, in satisfaction or dollars.

he likes what he does, which is a blessing for anyone who has a job that does

I like to think he came back to deystroy BB and finally put to rest who the better coach is.

It's the perfect desk job for him. He no longer has to deal with the press or the daily grind of it but he still gets to be a part of the big picture. Money, too.

I hate to say this but, whatever he's doing it is making him look like a 50 something year old butch lesbian.
