It's Merrill Hodge.

We've obviously seen his prediction about us winning the AFC East and being a major player in the AFC for a Superbowl.
He's repeatedly said he thinks we are that good.

But did anyone see NFL Live today?

It was the "Show Me" edition of AFC Running backs.

The show put Ronnie Brown in the category of "fast risers," but toward the end of the show for the "On the Clock" segment, there was debate involving Larry Johnson and several other running backs.

When asked, "Would you trade Larry Johnson to get Ronnie Brown?"
Merrill Hodge said Yes. He said he loves Ronnie's size, speed and ability to bust it for 80 on any given play.

Then, when asked if he would trade Larry Johnson to get Shaun Alexander, Merrill said no.

That goes to show you how highly he thinks of Ronnie.

Now, I don't know if anyone else notices, but Merrill Hodge is the analyst on ESPN who breaks down the most tape, recognizes plays, coverages, line assignments, etc...
He actually loves to talk X's and O's and break down film instead of just make predictions and talk about personnel or teams in general.

I think he has the most "football smarts" out of all the personalities on ESPN.

Is it a coincidence that the person who breaks down the most film and knows football the best is also predicting Ronnie Brown and the Dolphins to soar in 2006?

You tell me.

Yeah!! Hes in Love with ronnie, i like it. He wouldn't trade larry johnson for shaun alexander but he would trade him for Ronnie brown... I like that.

He's just making up for all the bad things he said about the team prior to the 2005 season. I believe he said we won't win 4 games or something like that.

man im loving merril more and more each and every day...and i highly respect merril because like you said hes not just throwing out random teams and making silly predictions on just gut feelings, he knows what hes talking about because he actually does his job which is to analyze the nfl and football games....and if you were to ask most people if they would trade larry johnson for ronnie brown they would say no, but merril going with ronnie shows that hes just not going to say no because thats what the general acception is

I think this thread is going to make me throw up once it gets going..............

I'm sure I could pull up 1001 posts on how Merril hodge is the biggest idiot in exsistence............

but after this report, people are going to rave how he is the shrewdest talent evaluator in television.

What's up Devil, did they talk about the sup draft?
Oh I don't have a problem with Hodge, Jaws, TJ, Mort & Clayton. Even when I don't agree with what they're saying at least they make sense.

Ron Jaworski breaks down the most film and is the best with the X's and O's.

While I think trading him for Brown is somewhat ridiculous, it's tough to gauge how good LJ is b/c his line is so great.

That was Sean Salisbury.

You will have NEVER heard me say that about Merrill Hodge. I don't care what his predictions were in the past, because he backed it up with film.
Evidence. I've always respected his knowledge of the game.

He doesn't just throw crap to the wall and see if it sticks.

Do you think, if given the opportunity, KC would trade LJ for Brown?

For the record, I'm not sure that Miami would trade Brown for LJ either.

I'm not talking about that. Just the fact that you HAVE to disagree with everything.

Jaws breaks down a lot of film too, but it's mainly with QBs and offense.

Merrill is a lot more diverse.

I'm not saying that it's everyone.......but you know as well as I do, that the vocal majority around here will kill a writer/sportscaster when they suggest anything negative about the Dolphins, and all but go down on them when they compliment them.
