It's my opinion that SAge will be starting if/when we are eliminated from playoff contention. At the moment, because of the way the AFC East is struggling, we're still in it - so Saban will stay with the experienced QB. If we end up dropping the Pats game, winning the Browns game, then losing again to Oakland, it would be fair to say it's time to see what Sage can do. Right now, the smart move is to NOT throw a possible playoff spot away just to see if Sage can succeed at this level. We have to stick with Gus for a few more weeks. If he flops and we lose a couple more, then I will be glad to see Sage go in there and show what he's got.

We are out of play-off contention as long as gus is in the line-up. The only chance we have of making the play-offs is to give Sage a shot. I'm not saying it will work but, it aint going to work with gus, and anybody, including Nick Saban, who thinks it will, is seriously deluding themselves.

PLAYOFFS??!! Dont make me laugh. This team is nowhere near playoff caliber. If they did make it to the playoffs they would just be eliminated in the first round. Whether the fans want to believe it or not this is a franchise in a rebuilding mode....period. That being said there are positives...new coaching staff, running back position and some good players on the roster. Question marks....o-line, age of defense, QUARTERBACK! It will take AT LEAST one more set of draft picks, another year in this system and the acquisition of a quality quarterback to get this team to the post season(early elimination post season appearance). I have been a fan of the phins since 1971 and would like nothing more then to see them succeed. With this being said I see no reason not to give Sage a shot at playing. Might as well find out what the guy can do so you know where you stand going into next years draft.

What's up Mr. Positive(snicker) We have as good a chance to win our division as anyone else. Not sure when you became so negative!

DITTO!!! The probability of us going to the play off's this year is not a sure thing. Gus will NOT all of a sudden become a pro bowler quarterback, let's face it!! I think Saban needs to face reality.....

Bingo.

We should not be content with mediocrity simply because while we are losing everyone else is too. The only benefit to everyone else losing is the window it gives us to fix what is wrong. If we change nothing, WE will never get better.

We do not get in the playoffs if the Patriots lose 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 or 16 games. We get in the playoffs because we WIN 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 or 16 games.

People, please stop using Wanny math.

Good Post inFins.

I think the problem with Saban is that he is not really interested in a playoff team with too many mistakes all around. Not just one guy. That is the message he is trying to send to his team. Not Gus or Sage or anyone one person. Everyone has to look at themselves and say, what Am i not doing or doing? CC keeps drpping balls. Linehan keeps running reverses and end arounds.

Quite frankly, I think Sage would be nice, but as you suggested, it wont solve the problem. Fans are figity and dont like it when they dont get what they want. We wont get what we want till next year. I hope.

So how would you all feel if Gus lost 2 of the next 3, we are eliminated from the playoffs and then Sage comes in and wins out? It's not likly, but who thought the Pats were screwed when Bledsoe went down, or St. Louis when Trent Green went down? You just really don't know until you give them a shot. I would be pretty disappointed if we waited for 2-3 more loses before we put Sage in, and he leads us to 4-5 wins.

I totally agree with 99% of what you said, and what you said actually answers the 1%, which is why not try Sage. If you accept that we are in a rebuilding mode and learning the system is a key to the rebuilding, Gus allows the coaches to continually teach the system with a veteran QB familiar with it, even if he's not that good. Putting Sage in now would remove that familiarity, create more work for the coaches trying to teach this system to a QB that they obviously don't consider to be a long term solution, and send a message to the vets that we're now experimenting and don't believe in our team. If Sage crashes and burns, which the coaches obviously consider a potential outcome, you've really pissed away the year.

Nobody likes to admit it or say it out loud, but Nick doesn't truly see us as contenders this year and is trying to set us up for the future. I personally agree with his long term approach rather than the short-sighted sell-out and win-at-all costs attitude so we can take a team to the playoffs that will only be set up to fail. That's a Wannstadt approach.

I've seen that act, I'm willing to see what Nick's approach can do for this franchise for many years to come.

This is what some of us are thinking.

Gus is losing.... this is a constant. We will either get worse or better with Sage. Even if we get worse, we're still losing. But, we're losing anyway...

I could see it if Gus was going to be the guy for a few years to come. But, he's not. Why waste the rest of the season?

See what Sage has got.... play him for 4 or 5 games. If it's not there, bring in Cleo. Look at him for 3 or 4 games.

If we are truly conceding this year to rebuild, then let's use it to see exactly what we have at QB. So, we'll know exactly what we'll need next year.

Let's face it, we already know what we have with Gus. It's not like he's 1 snap away from increasing his velocity and accuracy. He's just one snap away from another snap. Just like all the snaps before it. MEDIOCRITY.

I agree. We wont see Sage until the later parts of the year.

Um...you know if we win this Sunday we are tied for 1st place...:shakeno:

The Phins have a perfect situation to give Sage (or even Lemon, if he's gotten comfortable with the playbook) a shot and make a real push for the postseason. Much like Shanahan and Tedford, the Phins can put the offense in the hands of a dynamic duo of RBs and take the pressure off the QB. All the QB has to do is complete a few easy passes against man or soft zone coverage. The offense can be further simplified for guys like Sage and Cleo who lack game experience by giving them three reads...primary, checkdown and throwaway. If Frerotte could complete a greater percentage of his passes, I think this is the system the Phins are actually shooting for at this point in the season. It's his inability to keep the offense on the field which is keeping them from actually executing.

It's the kind of system that has Denver at 6-2, got Pittsburgh to the AFC championship game last year, and has the Bears at a 2 game division lead. Neither Sage nor Cleo are rooks, so they might even be ready to assume a greater role in the offense should the Phins make the postseason.
