Watch the Cowboys '99 season opener against the Redskins if you ever have the chance. Cowboys were down 35-14 early in the 4th quarter and won that game in overtime. Gailey threw the kitchen sink at them in that quarter--direct snaps to Chris Warren, option plays, and a great balance of running and passing.

And the clincher: They won on a play action deep pass to Ismail on 3rd and 1 in overtime when they were sitting on their own 30 or so. The ultra-conservative bore of a coach that many make him out to be would have run a HB dive dontcha think?

And as a back-up to that, reference Cowboys-Vikings on Thanksgiving 1998. Aikman, 455 yards passing, best single-game yardage total of his career, albeit in a loss.

When you are losing 35-14... Rushing the ball gets you fired. OF COURSE HE IS CONSERVATIVE. When asked what his style of football is he said (physical play and running the ball)... Our next coach is basically Dave Wannstedt...

At least conservative play calling would mean we wouldnt have to stomach something like a HB pass on a 2 pt conversion.

For that bring back Dave Wanny back... 1st Down: Run. 2nd Down: Run. 3rd Down: Run (If no 1st down) PUNT

I'll take a Dave Wannstedt in the form of a guy that actually has offensive knowledge, unlike Dave, and a guy that consistently fields top 10 offenses, unlike Dave.

Chan Gailey called an offense that passed the ball 55% of the time in 2001, because Lamar Smith wasn't the same runner and the OL were attrocious, plus we acquired James McKnight and Chris Chambers.

All due respect, but a better argument would be if the Cowboys were up 35-14 and he did all of that. Of course being down 21 points in the 4th quarter, he's going to throw "conservative" play-calling out the window.

I don't think Gailey is "conservative". I think he believes that you have to run the ball to be successful. Some people call that conservative. I call it knowing how to win.

Remember the Dolphins game in 2000 against the Jets?

Gailey is explosive, but he took way too many chances by not managing clock in that game. Remember that bomb to Sheppard from Fiedler with like 7 minutes in the game to go to put them up by 14? As crazy as it sounds, they had a good team that year, but losing that game was a debacle and also a Wanny decision on defense (Bates). The point is, Mora has the coaching pedigree and even if he said some things about the Washington Job, he didn't lie and he probably would make a good coach. The other weird thing I saw from Joe Rose's report was that Marino drove him to the airport. Check it out on Sun Sentinel.com. Marino has plates with a Dolphin Logo right? Anyway, I think that Marino, would prefer Mora especially if he gave his input. And we are not talking about total control. We're talking 3 years with a good buyout. :dolphins:

Ahh, but that's the thing. He never gave up on the run in that game either. Smith and Warren still handled it plenty, and Smith had over 100 in that game if I'm not mistaken.

I couldnt have said it better myself......You gotta run in this league, and you gotta stick with the run......Sure you have to open it up on offense, but you never, ever give up on the run, it should be the staple of our offense, especially with a back who can bring it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was truly one of the worst calls, situation wise, that i have ever seen. Downright sucked!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who needs a coach that aggressively passes all game long when we have two elite running backs next year and a line that we can hope to improve? the more people call gailey conservative the more i like it. at least on 3rd and 2 we might actually convert it by running it and not reversing it. if we run the ball effectively that opens up so much more for daunte. then we can actually get our play action and bootlegs and giving him the advantage instead of just putting him in the shot and waiting for him to get mauled. Gailey HC and Capers running the defense seems like a great option.
