Trapped in Trudeaupia
This is a post from a thread about DTV yesterday. Just thought other canuck football fans might be interested. I just found out that in the US, DTV offers Sunday Ticket in HD, (yeah, I don't know where I've been hiding either). So here I am in TO with my HD box and HD TV wondering why the hell I can''t watch my fins in HD every week. So I place a call.......
Just got off the phone with my cable provider (rogers). For any canadian fans that care, I'll tell you what they said. As you know, the semi-socialist nanny state of Canada regulates the air -- and more specifically the broadcast signals that travel through that air. So basically, HD sunday ticket hasn't been approved by the CRTC (for my US friends following this, the CRTC is a government-arm that regulates, metres, and must rubber stamp (usually they don't) every single radio, cable, or satellite station offered in Canada -- think Soviet Russia or China).
The operator doesn't really understand why this is the case, since the regular Sunday Ticket has been approved for years. He says that Rogers likely has a petition before the CTRC, but with anything that involves a large, bloated bureaucracy (my words) it's tough to say when, or if, we could get it.
Man, I miss my "grey' market DTV dish.
