You guys that are looking at what Suh is doing to our guards and are ready to give Mathis 5.5 million dollars need to slow your rolls! There are certain players in this league that CAN NOT BE BLOCKED one on one. They have to be game planned for. Suh is one of them.

i don't think the Dolphins offense is going into practices and yesterday's scrimmage game planning on how to stop suh, whether it's with double teams, quick passes etc... It's not happening. Looks to me like their putting the guards out there and telling them to block him one on one. Pouncy is a pro bowl player and when he was asked to do this last year it ended in a tackle for loss and a sack! They double Suh the rest of the game. We need to see some games where the team game plans for the opponent a little bit before we give Mathis 5 million. IMHO of course.

Turner getting destroyed by Suh was a surprise to no one. Team needs to give Turner snaps against other DTs to truly measure his talent.

In addition, $5 for a top 5 OG in the NFL is peanuts. Especially when this team is ready to make that playoff push.

Sign mathis for 5.5 mill guaranteed this year and next year but dont guarantee next year. Use a roster bonus payment by early March to keep him or let him go.

Sign a pro bowl guard when you can. Thomas is not starting material. Turner is too inexperienced without enough real playing time yet. Start Douglas and Mathis.

I get the feeling he will get more than 5mil but the issue is the money he would get next year. He wants a multi deal year which could (or should) cost us the ability to resign some of our players.

Didn't Douglas...our LG and what Mathis plays...do well last night?

How do we start Douglas and Mathis ... Who is playing right guard ?

I think people make it seem like moving around the o is simple as .... " oh move him to right guard "

Yea , because years of muscle memory playing the same side doesn't affect a player ....

I blame that on madden...

It is very different...

Going from one side to another changes a lot in your movement...you change what foot you lead with, your power step becomes your kick slide and vise-versa, your base changes and the overall angle of your attack changes. Yes a player can shift and we see it happen a lot, but it is a difficult move to make. This doesn't even take into account the responsibilities of each side and position

If I were the GM or Ross' lackey I would only spend 5 million on a left tackle at this point...

And I would have my staff TOTALLY FOCUSED on getting a left tackle in the next couple of weeks

It seems like an inordinate amount of faith & risk is being placed on Albert's recovery.

I have heard that Mathis wants $11M, or what he lost by being cut.
So that means two years I guess

Sorry but this Douglas talk is laughable.

You have the chance to sign a top OG in the NFL you put him at his natural position LG.

Turner and Douglas can battle it out at RG.

Albert is very near recovery . Not sure what you mean ..... Albert is one of the best LTs in football and there is already a lot of money invested in him :idk:

Plain and simple for most on here is we are tired of the OL BS! This has been 5 plus years of the same crap. Every year it is the same thing where a crap player that is blatantly obvious to us sucks, whether it be Donald Thomas, Jonathan Martin, or now Dallas Thomas (plenty of others) the coaches say he is the most improved player and every year it is complete BS! Every year over the last 5 our o line has been pretty much a joke. If a player is having a hard time beating out Dallas Thomas, we have issues! Also the Jets and Bills D line is just as good as ours....so these statements of not going against Suh every week are silly!

If we constantly double team the guy lined up across from our RG, that puts a lot of pressure on our LG to win 1v1 on the blind side while helping the LT with stunts, twists, blitzes, and the occasional whiff.

An All-Pro LG immediately helps the entire OL. Mathis next to Fox removes most of my worry from Tannehill's blind side. Being able to have Pouncey keep one eye on RG would be very comforting in pass pro too.

I think Douglas can adapt from LG to RG ... it's just about the least problematic transition in football. Yes, it requires work, but much like CB's that are asked to switch side and play a reactionary position. .. it can be done. As long as we give Douglas a couple preseason games and a bunch of reps in practice, I think he can do it.

My only reservations are:

1. Will Mathis be healthy for a postseason run?

2. How will we handle the cap hit next year? My guess is that Lamar Miller and OV will be offered low numbers and if they do not accept, let go in favor of James, Ajayi, Fede and Shelby.

I would think he was talking a about a decent backup... if so, I totally agree as Fox is hurt right now... this could quickly become a disaster...
