"I don't know if there's one guy who carries an offense," Fiedler said. "It takes 11 guys out there. It's a matter of getting it to the guys who can make the plays. Whether you call that carrying the offense or not, that's subject to interpretation. But if you get it to the guys in a position for them to make plays, that's the quarterback's job.

Here's another Fiedlerism. I know, I know, he's technically correct. It takes a whole team, yes.
But real QBs at least give lip service that the offense IS theirs. They WANT it to be theirs. They welcome the challenge. They WANT to lead, even though they know deep down that obviously they need the supporting cast to step up in order to succeed. But Jay always talks with the opposite attitude. He has always been happy being part of the "supporting cast" and nothing more. It's easier to deflect criticism that way. It's also a cop-out.
I want a QB, even with certain limitations, to at least exemplify some degree of leadership. Once in a while such rhetoric is a good thing. However in fairness to him, no one is going to follow a guy that simply talks but can't back it up on the field. Me thinks deep down Jay knows that, so he prefers not to talk.
Theoretically Jay is right. It SHOULD'T come down to one guy to carry an offense (see Dan). But alas, sometimes because of stupid FO moves, and injuries or whatever, it does come down to that. And if there is anybody who you wish would step up, you usually expect it out of your QB. So nice try Jay.

Another thing, and I've posted this in the past, but I'm sick and tired of all the apologists saying that jay's ability to not let his mistakes or criticism get to him is a positive attribute. That's true only to an extent. I don't know about you, but I want a QB that gets pissed at himself once in a while, that paces the sidelines thinking out the BS INT he just threw.. Sometimes that's not a bad thing, ya know? Besides who the F cares if you don't let your mistakes affect you mentally if you don't learn from them at thesame time? what has jay learned over 4 years? Has he gotten quantifiably better, made less mistakes, figured how to throw a proper fade, or an out, or 8-yard slant? This is a guy who's thrown almost as many INTs and TD as a starter, and probably would have thrown more if he didn't miss so many games. In less than 4 full seasons he's had nearly 20 games with double digit INTs -- (five of those with 3 or more). That doesn't sound like a guy who quickly bounces back from his mistakes…

I agree with everything you said up to this...

I think you meant to say that nearly 20 games with at least 2 INTS... I don't think there has ever been double DIGIT INT's (at least 10) in a game!? I could be wrong, but I think that is what you meant.

...you need to check Ray Lucas' stats a little closer, but I think you're right. I don't think there's been a QB who's thrown for 10 INts in a game. LOL

There are times when your quarterback has to rise up, raise his game to another level and carry the team. Sometimes its just making a big play that is the difference in the game. I don't see this in Jay, never have. Yes he has had a few good moments in four years but not enough to justify starting him further. His fourth quarter numbers and playoff numbers are pathetic.................

I agree that any QB should feel as though their offense is THEIR offense.

A recent article pointed out that - in contrast with Fiedler - Feeley called out the OL when they made mistakes. They said it like it was a bad thing, too.

Now, I'm not saying that if the Phins had a veteran OL that had done well at times, that it would be cool to rank on them; but the Phins' present OL has not done particularly well EVER, and is made up of mostly young, inexperienced players. I think staying on them about stupid mistakes that could get you killed would be mandatory for a QB who wants to be a true leader.

How many times did we see Dan Marino yell at his linemen after missed assignments or bad blocks? Maybe sometimes he got carried away, but by & large the line respected him & responded when he demanded they straighten up.

exactly. How u doin by the way, Blue/NoO? as i wrote on another thread yesterday, it's not so much Jay's lack of talent, or weak arm that bothers me. It's the routine missed opportunities that NO QB, even with limitations, should be making game in and game out. As an example I usually cite the Dal game and the incredible backline catch by CC for a TD. If it weren't for CC's great hands and athleticism, that would have been a lost opportunity -- and an easy one at that. NO ONE was near CC, and ANY QB who couldn't make that lob, or made it far more difficult than it needed to be should not be starting in the NFL. Now that game may indeed be a bad example to pick on Jay for it was one of the few games he actually looked like a legit starter. But fast-forward to NE the next week, and the same type of play ensues. This time CC can't turn himself into Gumby and jay misses on his only clear opportunity in the game to score (and at that point likely win the close stalemate). And there in lies the point. Mia's passing game and its QB have been severely limited these last few years. Teams in those situations just CANT afford to let the gimmi-plays get away from them. (Baltimore is a good example of this) But Jay routinely does. That in my opinion, is his biggest problem.
