Replacing Coyle will just give people another reason to say we're "improving" next year when the defense has a mild uptick.
But it's actually kind of amazing that Philbin might get the chance to replace both of his coordinators without ever having made the playoffs himself. If Philbin was half as good as a coach as he is at surviving lifeboat drills we wouldn't be in this shape.

I would have no problem with replacing Coyle. I would take rex ryan as DC in a heartbeat over coyle. We need more talent on defense, especially at LB but coyles schemes and playcalling has been subpar and at the end of games he plays with too much of a cushion.

The D 4th Qtr collapses are why we are 8-7 and not 11-4. They almost gave up another late comeback today! I agree, something needs to be done!
I absolutely agree with you......but the question is why is it happening? We were a top defense (regardless of whether I believed that or not) just 6 weeks ago and have been a shell of ourselves since them......what changed? Injuries, no depth, play calling or scheme? I hate the lack of pressure at crunch time........

There is no way that any decent DC will come to Miami with Philbin on a one-year contract - even if Ross is stupid enough to give him an extension (likely) everyone will know he will get fired if the Fins tank next year. So Coyle will stay and we will go 8-8 again (at best).
