For the Posters Worried About the O-Line

I'm sorry but Jake Long coming back wont open up running lanes on the right side of the line. If we average 1.3 yards per carry on the ground, we are SCREWED.
 
While I agree not having Jake Long in is a killer. His presence will not suddenly make Columbo's right knee any better, his presense will not suddenly make Vernon be able to pull and get to the second level. We are in deep **** on the right side if something isnt done.

Hey Tony- stop shopping at Dollar General for bandaids, go to Target and purchase a viable contributor
 
You don't need to have a pulling guard to run well, most run schemes are zone blocking.

I never said our right side was perfect but it will be fine.

blocking a 4 man d-line is much different then a 3 man front; I understand there aren't only 3 men blitzing, but for the type of d lineman on those fronts our oline is betteer equipped to handle. Slow Right tackles can benefit from having the TE on their side, or recieving help from the RB in Pass Pro; you don't NEED to be quick to be an effective guard either, strength is paramount

I still feel we'll be fine, and I think a lot of you just like to worry
 
Long will help, but we still have a huge gaping hole on the right side of our line. We need to replace at least Columbo, and probably Carey as well.
 
I could see where you are going with "A" ....but "B" & "C" I question. If you think the Tampa Bay Defensive line is good, then we are in trouble vs. the Pats on opening night, whom were able to stop that very same D-Line and left the bucs at 0 points.

As for C, well, we were playing the Panthers, thats probably why everyone rode the high horse....so by what you are saying is, we are better than the Panthers, but not better than the Bucs (without Jake Long).
 
First of all, since you are in the comparing mood, then you will know the defensive line for the Panthers is by no comparison the line of the Bucs. In addition, getting knocked backward into your own backfield, taking poor angles, and generally being over weight and out of shape have nothing to do with improvement. The issues with Colombo and Carey have nothing to do with progressive progress. They have to do with each individual player's shortcomings that have limited upside. Talking about Pouncey or Murtha might be different. They have upside. I am thinking rationally. Logically you hire a coach with offensive line teaching experience and you think you are one up on other teams in regard to that unit. Going into the fourth year and analyzing Tony's expertise over that period how can one have confidence there will be stability? And as far as Jake returning, the offensive line is a cohesive unit that works together. Jake will not have a lot of time for this.. He is great, but the line issue is much deeper than his return. Rational and taking a deep breath. I do that every day in getting through life. Does that make Miami a better team today. No.

I don't think Carey and Columbo will be starting, I believe Carey will be either moved back to RT or Murtha will move there; maybe Garner steps into RG. I believe both offer an upgrade over our current situation.

okay, now for thinking logically (novel thought in fandom I know, but you can do it, I believe in you!)

A) Jake Long, aka, our best offensive lineman, aka arguably the best offensive lineman in the game, aka the best player at the most important position on the offensive line is not in.

When you have a player who can take away the best pass rushers in the game by himself, that does wonders for the rest of your line's pass pro.
When you have a player who can demolish the whole side of a defensive line, that does wonders for your running game.

Judging our offensive line without Jake Long in, is like judging the Orlando Magic without Dwight Howard. Man they suck on defense when he's not in, but then when you get the best shot blocker and defender in the game on the court it makes everyone else look better because they have less responsibility once he's taking care of business.

B) I know they looked terrible against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers D-Line, but let's examine this Tampa Bay has used first round choices on Gerald McCoy (last year's 3) Adrian Clayborn, and then stole supremely talented, but injury plagued d end D'quan Bowers.
HINT: Their D-Line is pretty good, and we aren't the only team that will have trouble blocking them this year.

What was very encouraging was that despite having the run taken away, we were able to have some success offensively. Our previous offensive coordinator Danosauraus "Rex Offenses" Henning, would've kept pounding, and ran max protect pass plays with two button hook routes. We attacked the vulnerabilities of the Tampa 2 defense, which is the middle of the field. The pass to Fasano was a thing of beauty. And when Tampa saw that they were vulerable there they switched to a cover 1 leaving Marshall 1 on 1 on the outside, then we scored a touchdown. That was a clinical way of breaking down coverages.

C) Where was all this our offensive line sucks talk when Reggie was running rampant last week???

Summary:
Yea, our O-line isn't perfect, we need the right side figured out, but I believe we have the pieces in place, and believe that it will be figured out by the seasons start. More importantly when Jake is back in, everyone will look better.

So take a chill pill, stop trying to be the first person on the forum who predicted that our team is going to suck and why. Because nobody wants to hear it. Think rationally, and support your team. If you knew what you were talking about you would be working in a front office/ or coaching staff, and not in the stands watching a game and not being able to process what you're seeing on the field (I'm looking at you dmarino110).

I was extremely encouraged by what I've seen so far this preseason, and can't wait to shock the world on September 12th! :D

imo big jake is one of the best but he cant take on a whole dl by himself . yeah it would help some if he was bk in there but the pressure was not coming as much on jakes side as it was on the right side .and imo even if big jakes in there it isnt going to help much on the right side .we need them to either step it up or be replaced . and as far as supporting our team .we are .we just pointing out that we ned help at a poss and dont want the team we are rooting for to go down in flames while we are sitting here on sundays watching them.
 
Let me say this.

i watched the first half last night and went to bed. I will watch more soon.

My take so far is this. This game went just like i thought it would minus marshall taking a long one to the house. So that is good. I also noticed that the set up for that play was 2 WR set. Very basic out of the I. And we did that to that defense? The 4 WR sets got us first downs and we did fine but could have done much better. What kept us back? PENALTIES. Even though we got yards back, the penalties kept us from driving. The penalties were a bigger problem as far as winning ball games. Yes, they had more on them than us but we were shooting ourselves in the foot.

I saw the Carey whiff and the Columbo stumble. I also saw Chad Henne getting rid of the ball quickly and hitting.

My bottom line as to why TS is not all that concerned is that he knew, just as I knew that we were just going out there trying to stop and hungry home team desperate for a preseason win for the home team. I saw their D bringin the heat and often times had 10 guys in the box. I JUST DONT SEE HOW THIS WILL MATTER ONCE THE GAMES START! WE WILL BE RUNNING MUCH DIFFERENT PLAYS WITH MOTIONS, MOVEMENTS, AND SET-UPS. Henne was the biggest concern going in and now he reads the D and gets rid of it.

I see this game as Tampa wanted it more and were bringing heat. So be it. Now the world can react and kill columbo or anyone else who can be bashed. columbo at times was manhandling his guy. The guy is 6-8 and strong. That is why he is still in there. Yes, he is a knee injury slowman. But I also think everyone is focused on a few plays here that yes were costly or potentially costly, but that the gameplan lends itself to "dont worry, we'll take care of it once the real games start."

I am sure the Patriots are not worried about what there Oline looked like vs. Lions.

I would be more worried if this is what you see on regular basis in reg season. I know many will say this is what will happen, then again, you will say anything negative because you think andre gurode is the answer to our problems. It is not. Its just the only answer you can come up with.

i agree with the general sentiment of the poster. But then again, i am just a homer polyanna sparano lovin loser in your minds so whatever. Stay home! I dont care if you go to the game or not, or even watch. Just go watch the Patriots or something.

only problem with that is they just cut carey's salary in half. BELIEVE ME, they are not putting Carey back to RT. Carey will just be even more disgruntled. Carey was stunned on the one play with the quickness. Its preseason.

I see Garner as backup everywhere and Murtha backup at both Tackle spots. When season starts, you may see Columbo in one series and Murtha in another. Give the Ol man a rest. Fact is, it is not the end of the world. Its just preseason.

Daboll is going to have plays designed to help the Oline. Bank it. You heard it here first. He can trust Henne to make decisions and he can trust him to get the ball out. WE ARE A PASS FIRST TEAM.
 
Seems to me like your the one thinking irrationally if you think Long is going to come in ALL the OL problems will be cured. Long is on the left side, the problem is the right side. Long coming in will not have that much of an effect on the right side of the line. Now signing a pro bowl center, moving Pouncey to RG and Carey to RT, does.

Yes, as you stated above, Long has the left side anchored, but unfortunately rushes do come from the right side as well. So what is going to happen when an opponent (and this WILL happen) rushes one player to Long's side, and rushes two or three to the right side?

Worst case Fasono stays on the right side to block on running plays.

I think we'll be alright and all this shuffling must stop.

Murtha or Garner may end up on the right side if Columbo stinks it up.

Two completely different lines. Bucs have a 4-3 defense where they have great SPEED rushers, where as the Pats play a 3-4 and have brawlers without a big name pass rusher with that kind of skill like Bennet has..

Difference though.. The Bucs don't have the Maulers the Pats and Jets have. Bucs have a 4-3 defense where they have speed on both edges running, and Michael Bennet destroyed us. 3-4 defense, Patriots will have two big brawlers, not SPEED rushers killing Columbo. Patriots don't have it, Jets will bring pressure EVERY WHERE, but for the most part the Patriots will have 3 rush and blitz their ROLB or just have 3 rush.. but they don't have the speed rushers like the Bucs do. Power vs Power is different, just don't get ran over and you will be fine
