For the Posters Worried About the O-Line

I hope the OP realizes that Tampa had the 28th ranked run D in the league last season. Lets not hype them up just because they used some draft picks on the DLine. Most teams manhandled them last season.

livin in the past. doesnt mean anything. if thats the case, then tampa fans should be concerned cus we burned them bad and we were ranked 30th or somethin.

Seems to me like your the one thinking irrationally if you think Long is going to come in ALL the OL problems will be cured. Long is on the left side, the problem is the right side. Long coming in will not have that much of an effect on the right side of the line. Now signing a pro bowl center, moving Pouncey to RG and Carey to RT, does.

Yes, as you stated above, Long has the left side anchored, but unfortunately rushes do come from the right side as well. So what is going to happen when an opponent (and this WILL happen) rushes one player to Long's side, and rushes two or three to the right side?

I didn't say ALL the problems will be answered; I was merely pointing out the problems aren't as large as many on here think. Fact is, Long in will have an effect on the ENTIRE offensive line. Having played offensive line myself, I can attest to the fact that when you have a LT with the kind of ability it helps with protections throughout the rest of the line. If you don't have to worry about one side, you can focus your help on the other side, thereby masking the shortcomings on that side of the line

C) Where was all this our offensive line sucks talk when Reggie was running rampant last week???

you mean our awful oline was able to open a hole against THE WORST TEAM IN THE NFL? Well the way some people hear keep saying we are only 1 person away from being superbowl bound I would hope we could beat up on the WORST TEAM IN FOOTBALL...

I don't think Carey and Columbo will be starting, I believe Carey will be either moved back to RT or Murtha will move there; maybe Garner steps into RG. I believe both offer an upgrade over our current situation.

I agree.

Know what is really sad. Based on today's presser Tony is going to make "zero" changes. Does that surprise anyone. When he needs to tinker he doesn't, when he doesn't need to he does so.

I think they see these players everyday, and probably know what's really going on. I will only worry if this is a recurring issue throughout the season and nothing happens

Im right with you, (see comments below) and the original poster must have been watching some other teams offensive line not only this PRE-SEASON, for the LAST SEVERAL YEARS !!! You think we're al upset just because of a few pre-season games man ? You kidding me,what team in Miami have you been watching the last few years, because this has been an ongoing problem for several years with no resolution yet !!!!

Listen,I love Jake Long, but he's got to have more help, I think Pouncey may be ok as well, but still the offensive line has to get better and step up or this teams not doing anything.

Im tired of Henne getting all the blame when if he had an offensive line to give him some time to actually find an open reciever,or run block that our backs might actually get an open hole to hit from time to time, then this team might be pretty good.

It's not "irrational thinking" as you call it,(original poster),its fact from the past several seasons, and thus far in preseason as well. reggie Bush just had a -1 yard rushing in 5 carries against the Buck's and our D-line was getting pushed back on many plays, and another thing, I actually started a thread a couple weeks ago about our O-line in which at the time no one hardly responded, but I knew and have known it was a problem for some time !!! Irrational my @ss,the O-line better step up and start playing together as a unit, and I see this being a HUGE key to the Dolphins season, maybe the biggest as there success directly relates to that of Henne and the running game.

A. You're putting too much faith in Long. As good as he is, he's one man. He can't take care of five positions.

B. They looked bad against Atlanta as well.

C. I along with others posted that Carolina is a bad team right now, (in Pouncey threads).

This FO has been tweaking this O-Line for 4 years and it's still garbage. Three number 1's and it's the worst unit by far on this team. That's not irrational, that's reality.

thats what i thought...and to the guys sayin last year is last year we were manhandled up front primarily in one on one fashion in the run game not facing a defense loaded up to stop the run with an extra in the box defender or what have you...basically getting eaten up by 7 man fronts...it matters

you get into a lot 2nd and 3rd and longs cause you can't run the ball effectively and thats when your gonna see a lot of exotic coverage looks and henne's weaknesses will come to the forfront...he needs a strong running game

Everyone keep suggesting Jake Long coming back is going to make up for the Turnstile Carey and Matador Colombo.

Our right side is garbage and defenses are going to exploit it.

Murtha was manhandled during the game. The pocket was collapsed worse on the left than the right. Long would have kept the pocket balanced. It looked worse on the right than it was. It was not good, but not as and as it looked. Also, Long would have blown people off the ball on the left. that makes it more difficult for the back side to make the tackle. You are underestimating his impact. I am waiting for the first game to make my evaluation.

Yeah, they know exactly whats going on. Our FO/o-line guru head coach has spent countless draft picks(including several high picks) and FA dollars trying to get this line right. We're now in year 4 and the line looks bad as ever. But yes, lets all take a deep breath and trust a FO that has clearly earned our trust with consecutive losing seasons

LOL Im with ya man (SuperMarksbrothers),exactly what I keep preaching as well, this has been an ongoing problem for several years now,its not like it just popped up WesternNYDolfan, the staff, choose who-ever or all you want to blame for not getting it fixed, but it has been like this for the past few years, not just this year,so how in the world do you not get worried when its been a recurring issue for the last few years now and still hasnt been fixed ?

I can already tell from Sparano's response on the OLine issue today that he is getting out the excuse wagon. I agree that it also takes time to gel, but what was on display Saturday night wan't just a normal "we need to gel" issue. It was just sorry OLine play, period.

Football is not basketball and Jake long is only good NOT great... Not yet... Without serious help we will hurt REAL bad! What is wrong w soprano and co that they cannot get there o-line act together?
