One other thing about the Raiders: second-overall pick Robert Gallery didn't start against the Steelers. So, let's cut all this talk about how he's the next Tony Boselli. If he were that good, Gallery would taken the left tackle job from Barry Sims.

and that has to do with carey how?

just cause the number 2 pick didn't start or may not be as good as expected right away has nothing to do wth carey... but i think carey will be aight, i just dont see the point of this post

I don't see the connection, either. Let's compare him with Wilfolk, who CONTRIBUTED to his team's WIN. How about that?

I am not bashing Carey, but I do think that Rick made a mistake there.

I think the point is that even a guy who is more talented in Gallery, is having trouble cracking the starting lineup, perhaps we should be patient with our own 1st round linemen and quit calling him a failure.

OL is much different than DL. And Wilfork got schooled on so many plays. After the starter left injured, Edge ran all over them. Mainly Wilfork's fault.

DT is a hell of lot less pressure then OT and to play L or R is probably the the hardest position on the field other then QB. I'm not worried about Carey, we have two good takles that can play ahead of him and he can learn from. He will not be hung out to dry like our rookie last year.

That and I just heard that Andrews -the rookie that Philly traded up for broke his leg and is out for the year. Not happy that happened, but we are lucky that ours is still around.

Yeah, the argument back when it suited you folks who wanted an OL was that the pick was sure to pan out because OL is such a safe way to go and that DL isn't. Now that Carey isn't playing, it's all about how hard it is for OL to adjust in the NFL and how DL is a much easier position.

The answer to Gallery is Andrews. He moved a position and ended up starting game one for a contender. It's too bad about his leg.

btw what is the status on st. clair it sounded like he was seriously hurt in the game... if he was it is time for carey to start stepping up and showing what hes made of

My god, Wilfork fell on a football, he didn't catch passes from Brady.

I think the point of this post is to show even the talented Gallery did not start. So leave Carey alone as it's not unusual for OL rookies to miss the 1st team right off the bat.

And the Wilfork point again. It's easy to point out what he did, but you certainly don't jump to say what he didn't do, and that was help stop a Edgerrin James from rushing for a gazillion yards.

BESIDES, WEVE ONLY GONE THROUGH ONE GAME :yell: . Let's reserve our judgements please.

He also collared Edge on a run, saving a first down.

Gallery is anecdotal evidence. Andrews is evidence the other way. Does anybody have solid evidence on this topic either way? I'd love to hear about the last 10 years or so worth of 1st round offensive linemen if anybody has an idea of where to get such info.

Yeah, he was the only guy out there on D. I have been realistic about Wilfolk's contributions. He made them. He was a rookie and made rookie mistakes like the ones people are (rightfully) being so forgiving of AJ for even though AJ isn't exactly a rookie. If VW is a sieve every week, maybe we can talk about what he doesn't do well. Until then, it's just an arrow through my heart to know he could be in our DT rotation if not for the desire to fix last year's problem at the expense of what may be this year's problem.

Maybe you should talk to the person who brought this up for discussion if you're such a stickler for having no conversation until its time. I know where we stand and that things can change. I wish Carey nothing but the best.

Was Willfork(SP) high on our draft board?

He apparently wasn't high enough.

In fairness, it isn't exactly just Wilfolk. The team didn't do a single thing before the past 10 days to address DT even though it was an area of concern. It may have been possible to trade down for more picks to get this team a G and a DT in the draft, or we could have gone in that direction at another point. Just about anything would have helped reassure me.

I agree, we should addressed this with our first rounder. Then we should of traded up for the Snee guy - He's a beast.

In all respect to Carey, I think he will be a good if not great lineman one day, but as of right now I think we over paid for him.

Wilfork made a couple plays but was schooled on many more. He wasnt all that as Indi was running all over teh pats defense. They should have ran more than they did IMO. A couple of the big pass plays Indi got were the result of binging safeties to help vs teh run. Wilfork did not fair any better than Carey.

Carey replaced ST Clair, did he get teh qb killed? No. Was it his fault we didnt run? No. What exactly is teh gripe? he didnt start? Sorry JJ, I disagree with taking Wilfork, we had a huge need on o-line and no way to know STClair would impress as much as he did.
