For those of you worried about all the penalties.....

First off I just want to make this clear, I am talking about the Unnecessary Roughness penalties and the more "physical" penalties like UR and "roughing" the passer crap.

Some of those other ticky tack calls are BS, but we can talk about that in another thread.

but, THIS is what I want to see out of this team. EMOTION, INTENSITY. if it means getting a few tough calls then I'lll take that. WE can't expect these guys to just turn it on and off.
Turn it on...and LEAVE it on until the final whistle.

Look back over the years, you know who leads the league in penalties like this??

GOOD DEFENSIVE TEAMS!!. because defense(even more so than offense) is all about attitude...however, you can make the case that the Oline needs to have that same edge.

Regardless, we had the Bills shook yesterday. The defensive line was treating their line like they normally do ours.
our Oline was imposing their will...

outside of the last couple minutes....which I DID NOT like, cuz it became messy. I really liked this team.

That ticky tack call on jones with Taylor out of bounds was weak. but I want them to keep fighting like this.

I agree 100% on the emotion and intensity. Hit 'em in the mouth over and over and take what you get as long as it's not detrimental!

I like the mindset but those dead ball fouls are unacceptable. Not a part of ANY winning team, which is one reason they're winning teams.

You can't have a stupid selfish penalty that gives the other team a first down after the D holds on 4th and 10. It didn't affect the outcome yesterday because we had an 11 point cushion. But if that doesn't get cleaned up, it will cost us a game at some point.

I hear you on the emotion and intensity, but like @fansinceGwilson says when the play is dead, and you've just forced a punt short of FG range, and then someone taunts or shoves someone and gives them a first down, that's crushing. It's really no different than a fumble. Those plays end up causing major point swings and it's maddening.

yup, and I said I didn't agree with those ones down at the end of the game.

but all the rest....even the Landry penalty were all good IMO.

yes it hurts , but if we set the tone early in the game then we will be far better off.

I know ppl might not recognize it, but that Landry hit actually helps the running game.

cuz now you got the defensive players worried that they are gonna get smoked, which may make them a half second late for tackling the runner.

let that safety have to keep an eye on his peripherals a little more and make them second guess.

now, I NEVER want to see a player get injured...never. I don't care what team they play for. That's just not my style, I don't cheer for injuries to ANYONE(it is just a game afterall). However, nice hard hitting plays is what I like to see.

you know Seattle has been in the top 10 in penalties over the last 5 years and they have been OK.

In fact some of the best teams in the league are very high in penalties

I'll take more "emotional" penalties for "mental" penalties ANY DAY.

False starts, Delay of game, offsides, etc. are way worse to me.

holding?? I'll never ever understand....the NFL is way to ambiguous with this penalty.

yes, OBVIOUS holding should be a penalty, but 90% of holds are pretty weak.

Agre completely, but I call dead ball fouls "mental" penalties.

the Byron Maxwell taunting foul definitely needs to go. That is one of the dumbest penalties I've seen all season by any player.

just no need for that, definitely a mental error. But not surprising coming from a player that hasn't showed much smarts to begin with.

That needs to be cleaned up for sure.

the Landry spinning the ball taunting however was pretty weak, and when you call one team for it then let the other team get away with similar crap its hard to accept.

agree. Cincy wins the po game vs Pitt last year if they don't commit 30 yards of personal fouls w no time left in game putting Pitt in FG range. Those type of fouls are for losers.

landry needs to cut the ****. Every week he gets one or is right on the edge. He and his buddy Odell beckam are cut from the same cloth and neither will be part of any meaningful winning until they stop hurting their teams w selfish crap. I love Jarvis. But he needs to mature.

There is a HUGE difference between playing with intensity and being stupid. We have had some really stupid penalties like the push on the kicker and the plays late out of bounds yesterday that extended drives and led to points being scored. If they would have got that on side kick and tied up the game and won, I would have been irate! You have to be smarter than what we have shown this year!

I didnt even see what Maxwell did. What did he do? I know it was taunting

Not agreeing with major aspects of this thread.

Look at Vance Joseph's defensive backfield in the playoff loss last year to the Steelers....

The Dolphins - Including Jarvis' 2 penalties are NOT necessary.

Jarvis launched himself at the safety...He gets the same results by knocking the wind out of that player - without the injury and without the apology...

And I am against ALL celebrating --When you win the F...ing SuperBowl then celebrate ---other then that put your emotion into the game....

Our penalties are deadly - and are going to cost us not only games --but lets face it --with an abysmal start to the season we are on a thread ---so a game will cost us the playoffs...

Dumb mistakes cost us the the Seattle game and the Patriot game --- get rid of the mistakes...that we can do...

Then we need to score in the Red Zone....

When we win a SuperBowl like Seattle did then please come to me and tell me about how certain penalties are somehow OK because they speak to being part of a mindset that wins...Until then they are STUPID penalties....
