Check out this entry from Matt Mosley's draft blog from last year. Mosely is very close to the Cowboys having been a Dallas beat writer, and he wrote a bunch of blogs about the Dallas regime coming to Miami.

"11:25 a.m.: You probably know by now that our Len Pasquarelli is reporting that the Patriots and Raiders have agreed to a deal that would send Moss to New England. I just placed a call to my guy in Oakland, so hopefully we'll have more details as the day goes.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys selected Washington quarterback Isaiah Stanback. I know the Cowboys really wanted Beck out of BYU, but he went earlier than expected, to Miami. Stanback is a great athlete, and he really improved his throwing mechanics over the past couple of years.

He had Lisfranc surgery, and that could slow his progress. I think the Cowboys could be thinking about him as a dual player.

Much more to come."

They might not have wanted him as early as Miami did, but they certainly liked him

They were not "sold" on Romo 100% last year at this time.

they have Romo. Did they want beck as a backup?

Possibly, but they saw something. It doesn't say anything about them wanting any of the other QB's drafted around the same time, so they probably liked Beck more than everybody but Russell and possibly Quinn

I believe we don't want to put all our eggs in one Beck basket

hope we pick Henne or Flacco or perhaps a sleeper like Kevin O'Connell

or why not sign Ryan Fitzpatrick and save a Day 1 pick?

well this is great news.. because i dont want matt ryan ... but i wouldnt be opposed to selecting a QB with a 2nd round pick or later....

Awesome find! I know this doesnt completely retain to our situation but hopefully it does reassure that the tuna will give Beck a legit shot to start this season.

Ohh wait, I just remembered Parcells wasnt even working for Dallas this time last year, you think this still reassures Parcells likes Beck?

What Did Payton Manning Prove In His First Year And He Had 16 Games To Play. Squat!!!!! How About His Brother. Squat!!!!! Farve Was A Third Stringer In Atlanta Before Going To G.b. And Still Was A Second Stringer Until "magic" Got Hurt. When I Hear You People Talking About He Hasn't Proven Anything It Seems Like I'm Hearing From People That Don't Know Anything About Football. First Of All The Guy Only Played In A Few Games. Practiced With The Third Team Pretty Much Over Half The Year And Was Thrown To The Wolves Against Phili And Pitt. Not To Mention The Pitt Game Was One Of The Worst Conditions I Have Ever Seen On A Football Field. So People Grow A Brain.

True, but Ireland was still the head of scouting, and he is the GM here, whether it's just a title or not

tell you what i really like oconnel as a third stringer and a project qb in the later rounds real big qb with strong arm and extremely athletic. his mcanics need work but that why we have a qb coach

We need another veteran this year and get the young stud QB next year if needed.

I have high hopes for Beck and dont think we should draft a QB in the first three rounds. I like the sound of Brennan in later rounds because I think he is getting screwed by everyones perception of one Bowl game. He has the skills and will work hard to become a good all around nfl quarterback.

However I dont think this find says much on Becks behalf. That Cowboys team had no BP and Sparano as a Oline coach. The only one who could be taken from our new regime as a Beck lover would be Ireland who was there GM. However everyone knows that Jerry Jones is the GM in Dallas and Irelands word was not to big in those days.(just assuming anyway) So I dont think this is relevant to our team now. Beck was not solid last year and they are evaluating that. I believe he will get another shot but our line was not as bad as every Beck lover makes it last year. Our skill positions were however and I think we have and will improve that over the next few months.

I think its scary on a couple of fronts if this was true.
One that they could misjudge where Beck was going to be drafted so badly and that Isiah Stanback was thier next choice who was a very bad 4th round pick.

I dont agree that they were looking at a Qb very hard because they could have drafted much better qb prospects than Stanback, he was always a wr prospect for them. Makes me think this reporter might have been clueless on all fronts.
