Admittedly, I haven't scouted him. I don't get into that much, but from what I've read and the little film I've seen, he seems to be a pass rushing specialist with a unique skill set for it. Lighter DEs have come into the league before. Once they put on more weight, they can become better against the run. I especially want to hear from the vets who actually analyze film, not just the highlight reel. Tell me why I shouldn't like this pick. Maybe not SoS though. We might need to give you a few days.

this kid could be a gem for all we know. people are going to bitch just because he wasn't the guy they wanted. I personally wanted Foster because It seems like forever since we had a great linebacker but nothing I can do about it. Time will tell how good this kid can be I hope he's a baller!!

He didn't test well enough to be a safe bet to produce at that size. I knew he'd be the pick if he was still there but that doesn't mean I have to be happy about it. How dare I have opinions.

I think their problem is not so much with the player but with our defense and what we ask our players to do.
He is sub par vs the run but we dont ask our DEs to play the run very often..
If anything I think most people on here wanted a more well rounded DE if we went that route..
He has the best pass rushing tools of anyone we could of drafted.
I too think passing on Foster is a mistake he is worth the risk.. However fresh off cutting Jordan I can see why they stayed away.
The guy has injury concerns, got kicked out of the combine, had a bad urinalysis, and scored a 9 on the wonderlic.
If one guy in the draft room has major concerns you stay away

Thanks. To be clear though, I'm not chastising anyone for not liking the pick. I don't know enough about the player, and even if I did, we're all guessing anyway.

Good point about the Jordan pick influencing this one, if we draft a guy that is already in the drug program somebody is getting fired if he doesn't work out.

He is clearly a natural pass rusher, just looks like he has "it". His film barks out at you. Insurance for Wake (and resembles his style very much, with a nasty Freeney spin move). If Wake goes down our whole season is screwed, bc at that point youd be relying on Branch to be your best pash rusher. We would get sliced up by the qbs in this league. He wont be a 3 down player to start but we have Hayes who is awesome at run D.

Part of me wanted Foster, but he slid for a reason. Even if we got him and was a stud, we would still be screwed if wake got dinged up.

FO was always targeting pass rush. Armando had it right (which he has been with this staff, he must have a real source on inside)

I think it's because miami didn't trade down, as teams were trying to trade up. But you have to get value worth doing it and I think either fins would have missed talent they wanted going that far and not the picks worthy to trade down. I like it. In mock drafts I played around with, he was one of the guys I wanted miami to get. Yes he's not good against the run, but many pass rushers aren't. But the way I look at it, is when I look at pros and cons of a player which all have. Yes the top 5 talents have less cons, but miami wasn't picking top 5. Once players are pick out of the top 10 is when it's a matter or liking their positives compared to their negatives and between each player.

When I look at a player, they all have their good and bad. But I look at as far as the positives what can't be taught. Charles Harrish as the explosivenss and moves, some bad ass pass rush moves and energy and athleticism and has a high motor and intangibles that can't be taught. So many times I see a top Defensive end that either got by with power or speed but never had pass rush movies or got through with a high motor but limited with top end athletiscism. Yes he's not fast like Freeney or other DES with the forty yard dash. But it's more the first step and short distance speed and quickness and explosiveness that is more important for a DE. He seems to have that, and like I said, what he lacks he can work on whether technique, working with veterans, maybe not add much more weight but increase strength in weight room as well as be coached up. But I look at what can't be taught which he has, and I think a lot of his negatives can atleast be improved upon.

I didn't want defense with the 1st pick...I wanted Lamp (int OL) and now I want Feeney. I trust Larsen more than I trust Bushrod.

The flavor of the month was Jordan Willis on here lol. Charles Harris will be better. Glad Grier and company thought so too.

I don't watch or follow the draft much anymore. Personal life is hectic.

From the research I have done today I can say this...
People don't like him because he was not the sexy pick. Foster comes from Alabama, has unreasonable expectations (Luke keuchly) and is a big name. Same idea with peppers. Foster plays for a talented Alabama team where most of the players do not translate after college. He was pegged as a WLB where we just invested in Alonso. Most members refuse to believe that you can't just put any player where ever you want and expect success. That and his shoulder is more of a concern than people might realize. He just wasn't an ideal fit.

Peppers was another big name pick. The problem was that we had an exact replica in Jones. IMO peppers seems more comfortable attacking than passively waiting for the ball. Mixing him and Jones would create a struggle because you need a player who can off set Jones aggressive style and cover the top. Shame we lost IAQ.

Now on Harris he definitely will take a year or two to develop. His run defense must improve and his edge containment. (Gotta keep guys like Taylor in the pocket) But he possesses a ton of natural gifts like his first step, pursuit and work ethic.

After doing a ton of research and reading around people have quietly praised us for the pick because it fills a need and builds for the future. If this kid works as hard as they say we may have gotten a top 15 talent in the draft

I like the player. I don't like the tunnel vision on one player and not answering the phone and weighing the value of the player selected vs. the opportunity to fill the holes on the team and load up on picks in a deep draft with talent through the first 3 rounds. Grier is not doing his job.

I like the pick but I understand that some people didn't like the pick. But please, lets all root for the kid to be awesome. He's on OUR team. This board is notorious for hating a player that the FO drafted. It seems some people on this board are more worry about being right than about wanting our team to win. Nothing wrong with having a different opinion but we've seen in the past with some people that if they don't like the pick they will point out to us every little thing that player might do wrong as if to say "see, I was right about the player".....when they right attitude would be "I didn't like the pick but I'm rooting for him and hope he proves me wrong".......check your egos at the door and root for our players

Ozzy rules!!

I was a Zach Martin guy when he came out.
I was a Cody Whitehair guy when he came out.

Any guess why I didn't care for this pick, and who I preferred? Like last year, Lamp is there at the top of the 2nd. If they jump up to get him, I'll be a happy camper.

As for this pick. People bark about needing a Wake replacement, like a rookie will come in and be the insurance needed. Yet others understand he's a out years possible productive player. Out years are fine, but give me a day 1 starter who protects the qb and opens lanes for the running back.
